MCB Major Upper div

Hey Guys,

So i'm taking bio1a right now, and we just had our midterm for genetics (with rine). I like the material we are learning, but are upper div MCB courses tests similar to rine's test? I found the first part of the course (biochem) to be pretty easy. ANd also which emphasis has the highest GPA average?
Thanks

well, the original emphasis that had the highest GPA was just cancelled sooooo yeah. lol

which one was that? and which one has the highest one now?

If you are looking for easy, MCB is the last place you should be looking. MCB is (one of) the hardest major(s) in L&S.

I agree. MCB definitely challenges you and the upper div classes are completely different than the lower div classes. Don’t do MCB if you want to look for easy classes. MCB can be a GPA killer for pre-professional students and should not be taken lightly. With that being said, though, I think MCB is a really good place to learn bio in a lot more depth than you covered in lower div classes. I am personally taking MCB 100A right now and I have to say I am learning a lot and am enjoying it.

I’ve always heard that MCB upper divisions are hard, but very lenient in terms of curves? and how hard is it to get an A in those classes compared to Bio 1a?

In terms of the curve, I hear most classes get curved to an average grade of a B. However, you also have to take into account that the competition gets tougher because the students in the MCB upper divs are (most likely) students who did well in the lower div classes, since they didn’t get weeded out. So if you consider both of that, I would have to say that the classes can be harder than lower div classes.

Wut are some other good majors that have pre-reqs similar to MCB other than Public health and Ib and those other majors in CNR.

BioE…and chemistry kinda
