McCain Chooses VP Nomination

Not really I just need opinions desperately and want to know if I should add schools to my list and if I can get in these schools.

Chances at Duke, Cornell, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Boston College, UNC, PSU?

I am apply to the schools above and Penn State honors. I realize a lot of these schools are a bit of a stretch, but I figure Penn State should be pretty sure since I live in Pennsylvania. I am also applying to Duke ED.

White, Male

SAT:
Math: 730
CR: 670
Writing: 680 (11 on essay)

Haven't take SAT II yet, will take in October and expect to do well

Class rank: 13% from a fairly competitive high school (My rank dropped after last semester when I had to get surgery and missed a lot of stuff)

GPA: 3.7 UW

Course load: Very rigorous with most of the APs I could have taken

AP Test scores:
Calculus AB: 5
Calculus BC: 4
US History: 4
US Govt: 4
Taking AP English, AP Chem, and AP Latin next year

ECs:
4 years of football
3 years of wrestling
1 year of track
a few weeks on the Obama campaign

I have already written my essay for the Common App and have been told it was very good.

What are my chances at Duke (ED), Cornell, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Boston College, UNC(out of state), PSU (in-state+Honors college)?

Forgot to mention my uncle went to Duke.

Duke (ED) - Low Reach, Duke's really great with ED acceptance %
Cornell - reach
Vanderbilt - high match
Georgetown - reach
Boston College = match
UNC(out of state) = match
PSU (in-state+Honors college) - match?

Duke- Reach
Cornell- High Reach
Georgetown- Reach
Vanderbilt- High/Moderate match
Boston College- Again probably a reach/high match
UNC- Match
PSU- In

3.7 GPA and sub 2100 SAT will hurt...being caucasian will not help either...top 13% of your class? I guess that's ok..but the ECs are REALLY laking. No academic ECs...unless you get a Sports In you'll have a tough shot at all of those schools except PSU and possibly UNC.

You might have a shot but I would add in more match/safety schools unless you really would want to go to PSU.

Oh and as an FYI...Its VP Nominee...not nomination...nomination is the process by which a nominee is selected.

your UW gpa and Class Rank kills your chances for Vandy... unless your asian lol

Penn State is fine with me, they're actually pretty good academic. Also does it really mean that ECs are lacking because I dedicate like 15 hrs a week for basically the entire year for sports whereas academic clubs only meet once a week for half an hour at my school and you can only be involved in one or two clubs at once. Forgot to mention the reason for my low GPA is I got surgery and was out for a few weeks and missed a lot of important stuff. SHould I put that on the application?

Bump /\ /</p>

More please

I'll bump it again.

Duke- Reach
Cornell- High Reach
Georgetown- Reach - High Reach
Vanderbilt- Match
Boston College- Match - Slight Reach
UNC- Match

Just so you know, taking 3 SAT IIs at once is tough unless you have great mental stamina...
your SAT I is also a little low and i don't think you don't have time to bump it up before ED. but i would consider taking it again...it might help in those reaches
i would also consider volunteer hours/community service

I'm kind of expecting to do poorly on the last SAT II I take so I'll make that the hardest one and try to retake it because Georgetown is the only school that requires 3. I don't think I'm going to be able to retake the SAT Is because I have so much to do between football, wrestling, and college stuff.

Haha. thats a good way to get attention but on a site full of high schoolers you should have put Obama's name instead...

I like to keep it realistic since McCain was rumored to make his selection during Obama's trip and Obama would have been unrealistic because he was on that trip unless he announced it in front of 200,000 screaming Germans.

My predictions:

Duke- Reject/Defer ED. I'm pretty sure legacy only matters if your parents went. Could be wrong though.
Cornell- Reject
Vanderbilt,- 50/50
Georgetown-Reject
, Boston College- Accept
, UNC, - Reject (you're OOS)
PSU-accept

The main thing I see with you is that you're way too average. Your SAT's are a little low for the most competitive schools, as is your GPA. Work on raising the SAT, and if you get 2150+, then Duke may be an acceptance.

If I were an adcom being on the campaign of Obama might work against you, he wants to double the capital gains tax which is basically euthanizing the crippled stock market...just kidding. That being said, I think you're going to get into one of the Vandy-Cornell-Duke-UNC schools, but they can be quite fickle with their admissions.

Duke (ED)-reject
Cornell-accept
Vanderbilt-accept
Georgetown-reject
Boston College-accept
UNC(out of state)-accept
PSU (in-state+Honors college)- accept to regular college, but reject to Honors.

Will it make a difference with Duke and Penn State Honors if I get 750+ on 3 SAT II's?

I'm still angry that I fell for the title! (Me 5 seconds ago: OMG! REALLY!) sigh

I would definitly try and have your counselor talk about the surgery thing.
Duke (ED)-reach, kind of high but not as high as if you were doing regular decision
Cornell-match
Vanderbilt-match
Georgetown-not sure
Boston College- safety
UNC-match
PSU- match

Any more opinions?

Duke: High reach
Cornell: Reach/High reach
Georgetown: Reach
Vanderbilt: Reach
Boston College: Slight Reach (Your SAT's are about average: average this year was about 2085, and your rank is well below average considering 80+% of the freshman class were in the top 10% of their high school class...)
UNC: Slight Reach
PSU: Slight reach for honors college, In regular
