Mccombs vs Kenan Flagler

I’m trying to choose between these b schools. One factor that has come to my attention is how large Mccombs is with 4500~ undergrads vs KF’s 670 overall. Would you say it’d be harder to stand out/get leadership positions considering the number of student in your class size? I think I want to end up in management consulting and don’t know which one has an edge in recruitment or whether they are about equal.

I noticed you are in state for UT, so you must be OOS for UNC. It makes no sense to pay the OOS difference in tuition cost imo. You can get a job in mgmt consulting with a degree from either. The programs are not going to be that different.

@lots2do it’s going to be about the same cost i think bc unc gives great aid for low income but I don’t have a finalized package yet for either

As for Management Consulting, the big firms recruit on both campuses. As for leadership positions and internship opportunities, you can find these at both. Are the intro lecture classes larger at UT? Probably. Once you get into your major courses, probably insignificant.

You will want to keep both options open until you get your final financial packages. I am not aware of “great aid for low income” for oos students at UNC. That would actually surprise me, as my belief as to why they admit oos students is for geographical diversity and oos tuition income.

Have you visited both?

When you are comparing financial packages don’t forget to factor in travel expenses and logistics of getting from the airport to campus, summer storage of your dorm stuff, trips home for holidays.

Internship recruiting on UNC campus may provide some opportunities for you in Texas, (or you may have to seek out your own) but the majority of opportunities will be in the Raleigh, Charlotte and Atlanta areas. If you ultimately want your mgmt consulting home base to be in Texas, then definitely consider that.

AND, if you have not put in your $50 housing deposit at UT, please consider doing so immediately.

I was also surprised to find out about the carolina covenant program that guarantees a debt free education to OOS kids as well (to those under a certain income level)

Yes I did that considering how fast housing fills up at ut

I should think more on where I want to end up in the future region wise…

Thank you @lots2do for bringing up important factors to consider

@Jaysun18 You should consider what your future plans are after college. When my now-sophomore Longhorn was looking at schools, he asked the recruiters what was the typical next step for their students after graduation. In many cases, the students attended grad school or settled in the area of the country where the college is located. My son realized he did not want to live in the Northeast…or Southeast…and really likes being a Texan! Ultimately he chose to attend UT - giving up nice scholarships at other schools - partly because of his desire to stay in Texas.
