My friend and I actually applied to the same programs. It’s just been stressful waiting.
I bet. It will come soon I think.
I hope so.
I would have your daughter call Service Point (admissions) and just say “I want to make sure that my application is complete and you aren’t waiting on anything from me.” Our first time through the process it was a bit unnerving for my son and that helped his (and my) stress level. Feel free to PM me with questions. (I’m an old College Confidential parent so a bit unsure of how this new interface works…is this PM?!)
This is a public reply, but appreciated regardless! Same boat here- D with similar stats still waiting. Her school does not do class rank so that is a missing data point, maybe the reason, who knows? As a parent I just really hope she hears by april 1 so she will have everything in together with which to decide.
Unrelated question for you- do you know how easy or common it is for kids to take classes at Concordia? McGill has no studio art classes and my D is very interested in that.
Ah…public…good thing I was on my best behavior. I’m not sure how easy it is - honestly I would have your daughter ask that on the McGill and Concordia sub-Reddits. My thinking is not only does McGill have to OK it but also there has to be space in the classes at Concordia. I don’t know how subscribed the studio art classes get. I know that kids from McGill do take classes at Concordia - so that precedent is certainly set!
My D21 was finally FINALLY accepted to Arts at McGill. Had updated mid-term grades in early Feb. 3.8UW, 29 ACT.
Was that just today??? Congrats!!!
We saw it today, it might have been posted yesterday, not sure.
Congratulations! When did you daughter apply?
She applied in early November, updated grades in late November, updated mid-term grades like 2/1, sent first semester grade verification (uploaded her report card, the request was very non-specific) a week after that.
She went from Further Review Required (status from early Feb) directly to Admitted Pending Final Results, in case anyone is worried there is some interim status, not necessarily.
Thanks for the details. It seems like such a strange process, so it helps to hear your D’s experience. Again, congrats, it’s a great school!
Congratulations!
McGill does not have a strange process, its one of the best, top down, not like some US schools that promote yield protection and accept down to top. McGill admission process is based on merit. One of the best process I have ever seen.
But yet there are some with very high merit that haven’t even been reviewed. I don’t understand how they can analyze all applicants fairly without opening their file? The process is different than most US schools - and puts stress on many kids ( and parents!)
Yes it differs bc it’s the best process based on merit, not on yield protection. It’s a superior system. If you think you are high merit and did not get answer, you should contact admission. They for sure opened the files. McGill is a serious university who does not play games with acceptance. I am very impressed with their system. Perhaps not understanding the process. Its the best. And it does not put more stress than holistic reviews in US.
My daughter was accepted and received scholarships to other top Universities in Ontario months ago. Her grades and scores are similar or higher than many accepted in the programs she applied to at McGill, but she is still waiting to find out if she will be accepted to McGill.
I am Canadian, a graduate of a University in Canada, and appreciate that schools in Canada accept students based on merit( one of the reasons my daughter applied to McGill), but this does not appear to be “top down “if many haven’t had their applications opened and reviewed…so, I find strange.
okok
I’m experiencing the same concerns. I was recently accepted into University of Toronto, and my grades are similar or higher than those that had been accepted to McGill for the same programs. I was told that everything was fine. My application was deemed complete, but I’m still waiting. A friend of mine submitted mid year grades the same day as me and got accepted a few days later (my grades were slightly higher). I’m stressed because McGill is my top choice.
Did you submit test scores or test optional? The more grades and tests they have the faster the decision. Canadian Univs process was one of the best experience and lowest stress ever for our situation.
