Test optional for both me and my friend I mentioned. Test optional for a lot of the acceptances I’ve seen posted.
I don’t trust many things, but I do trust the Canadian universities admission system. The only stress comes from US admission process, so far.
Have you been reading the McGill forum for the last couple of months? If so, you would see, at times, the frustration many have expressed. Yes, some of us have contacted admissions and have been told that when they review the applicant file, if anything is missing they will request it at that time. Until they review the file, sits at “ready to review”.
My D was asked to update her trimester grades a couple of days ago, so I let people know on this forum because we all want to know what’s happening.
This is unusual year, I am stressed and my daughter is stressed, so I go in this forum for information and support. You appear to be hostile and I’m not really sure where it’s coming from. Thanks for your input, have a great night.
You missed the point. Being straightforward is interpreted as hostile. The file goes from Ready to Review directly to Accepted Pending Results, If you read what Ready for Review means, it also could mean your file is in review. It comprises of more stages. It does not mean your file is not reviewed, if it writes Ready for Review.
When you call they don’t even ask for your Minerva ID- they stop you before you can give information and just say they don’t need anything if you are ready for review…”that means your file is complete” and they will contact you if they need anything. I too, find this stressful. They told her she could get in on Monday or it could be until June! And she asked if she could send her ACT after the fact but they said no. Of course she thought it would be cancelled like her last four, and then was able to take it after she applied to McGill. Is your child a student there currently or are you applying this round?
Have gotten decision already, and I found the process one of the lowest stress ever. I called one time and they were very nice. I gave them Minerva ID and they checked application. The only stress I had is with US process.
Not true. My daughter went from “ready to review”to “further review required”, she sent her updated grades…and we wait. Unless you are from admissions and have direct knowledge of how this works please do not assume to know what is going on in the admission office. Take care.
I am sure you will all be admitted. System works much better than US one.
Congratulation on your acceptance! I’m glad you had a great experience, but please do not assume to know what my daughter is dealing with based on your experience.
ok, you will probably get acceptance soon. i found the process working really well for me, the nightmare comes from US system…just stay positive…it will work out in the end.
Good luck to all of you here and hopefully you will all get accepted this coming week!
I hope so, I know my daughter would be thrilled!
I would be too!
Me too!!
I think I say that every week! Hopefully this week. Ironically she has been accepted at all US schools she has applied too- I hope you’re right @xyz18 !
US resident (kids went to US public high schools) and have been through the McGill admissions process twice. Here is my experience.
If everything (grades…not just cumulative GPA but the pieces where it says things like "All English grades must be a B+ or above plus your ACT/SAT scores) are above the minima, you will get a good outcome. It’s when you either had a B in sophomore English or your GPA is a 3.3 (Arts Minima) that it gets tougher and the waits get longer. My oldest had a quick turnaround post submission of first semester grades; my youngest who was just over a 3.3 (from a US high school they know well) had a much longer wait.
I do actually like the system better than the US system - but when you are balancing meeting US college expectations with McGill it can get tough.
Good luck!
I hope this means my wait will end soon! If SAT scores are completely excluded like I thought they would be, all my individual grades have been an A+, and my GPA is 4.0 UW. I went TO, but initially reported my highest SAT in each category. For Arts & Science my math section was 30 below. That’s what’s causing most of my anxiety because I thought the TO form would mean they’d ignore that, and that’s the faculty I really want to get in to.
My reading is 60 above if that matters.
Since McGill only guarantees housing for the first year, can anyone answer these two questions:
-
If a newly-admitted student enters with enough AP credits to start as Year 1, are they still guaranteed on-campus housing for their first “actual” year?
-
Any idea for reasonable rents near campus: shared room /shared apartment is fine.
Working through options.
Thanks so much!
1 Yes
2 This is the LaCité complex near campus. High rise, well maintained 1 bedroom CAD$1250/month.
This is the high end of nearby rentals. If you are from Toronto, Boston, San Francisco etc. Montreal rents are a bargain.
Also, there is no on campus housing after first year unless you are a resident assistant.
