McGill and all Quebec universities are subject to directives from the Quebec government. These directives have often been illogical. For example, McGill cannot require that students, staff and faculty be vaccinated to attend class. But you must be vaccinated to enter a library on campus. Also, Quebec was the only jurisdiction in North America to mandate nighttime curfews despite no evidence that they reduce virus transmission.
Canada in general has been more cautious than the US in opening up. On the other hand, the infection and death rates in Canada are much lower than in the US.
So, my daughter started at Mcgill in the fall of 2019. She is a dual citizen US/Canada but primarily grew up in the US.She was lucky enough to have at least a minimum of a full semester and a couple of months to meet people before students were sent home. Also, we have family in MTL.
Communication from the university has been far from clear and timely but they are dépendant on the Legault’s government which has changed his mind regularly. She was/is in an apartment last year and that facilitated things. She has good roommates. The curfew was by far the worst and they all hated (and so did most Quebecers frankly) it. There is no data that says curfew helps. The restrictions on how many people can gather were also difficult and changed often.
Navigating between the two countries was pretty easy as she is a dual citizen. Her roommates (French and Indian living in US) did OK also.
For the students starting in 2020, Things have been much harder with delays in visas, inability to meet people and isolation!
Let me know if you have questions.

Anyone has information about medical US school admissions after McGill undergrad degree ? Will Canadian undergraduates degree be a negative factor? I don’t think so but just looking for more information . Thank you
Canada and the US have a harmonized medical education system. Each country accepts the others accreditation as equivalent to their own. Having a Canadian bachelor’s degree will not be a factor. just keep that GPA up.
Thank you very much ! I am not sure how my daughter feels , but I am ready for new adventures to vist her in Monteral for the next 4 years .)) We are in New hamshire , so I will be driving there …
We also get quite a few Canadian med school graduates (mainly McGill, U o T, McMaster and UBC) that come and do their residency or fellowship training here.
Submitted my application on around November and sent off my mid-semester grades on Monday. ACT 35, IB predicted grade 44/45. I haven’t heard back yet tho from both the College of Arts & Desautels and I’m getting quite worried… Any other IB applicants here?
My DD is canadian citizen. She applied in Dec and submit Self-reported grade on Jan 12. But status is still “Ready for Review”. Don’t know why her case moves so slowly.
