mcgill admisssions

I'm a rising high school junior and I have a strong interest in mcgill. Just what kind of gpa and sat scores are necessary for admission. To sum up what does a typical applicant from the US look like.

How tough is it to get into the commerce program at mcgill and is it possible to do an internal transfer from the arts school. I believe it is easier to get into the arts division of mcgill than the management school.

any information will help.

thanks

I was a US student admitted this year, can't wait for the Fall :-).

Um, basically...you need to have done well throughout your entire HS carreer, and your junior year is of particular importance I'd say. I had a GPA of about 4.1-4.2, lots of AP classes, and a 33 ACT. I didn't use the SAT, so I don't know about that. About the APs, apparently that may have been a determining factor, as my counselor told me they called the school to request more information about our AP program.

So, I'd say in addition to just your GPA and ACT, they are going to look at your course selection...an indication of your work ethic. I don't think there was any section on the app about extracurriculars, and there wasn't an essay.

I was rejected from the faculty of Arts and Sciences, but was admitted into Faculty of Sciences.

Good luck.

PS. What is your GPA?

do canadian schools have as much affirmative action in colleges as us schools do, or is admission solely based on academics?

solely based on academics

Funny you should ask. I'm a black American student...it was nice to know that I got into McGill solely on my academic merits, and not on some quota.

I agree. I go to a competitive school, and for the most part it was the minority stuents who got into the ivys, and with all the talk about it going on it is really nice to know that I got in for my academic merit and not for my ethnicity. It's good going into the next school year knowing that I was just as qualified as everyone else.

There is a little bit of a geographic quota as they need enough Quebecer students to keep the community from feeling that McGill's just an Anglo school with no real ties to Quebec.
