Mcgill Application questions from US student

I'm a canadian citizen in US highschool. does this decrease my chances because I won't be paying the 20k american students pay?

I'm mainly interested in Biology, Neuroscience, perhaps philosophy or journalism as minors. Am I right in putting faculty of science as first choice and faculty of arts as second choice? Are these the most relevant?

I'm not sure when to apply. Right now I'm half way through first marking period. I have 83 in AP Bio right now which I'm hoping to bump up before end of MP, this is the lowest I have ever gotten in highschool, don't know how it's going to affect my chances, being senior year. My october SAT scores come out october 20th (I retook). Should I apply as soon as my scores come out? I'm afraid of applying too late or too early. Since they don't need essay or letter of rec, im basically ready and i want my mind to be at peace.

What scores should I send? I have 680 CR, 720 Math, 720 Writing on my 1st SAT, 33 on my second ACT (34,34,33,31) (if i superscore i have 34, but i dont think they do that). 750 Math2 SAT, 790 US history, 780 chemistry. Should I send my ACT scores or my SATI+II scores, or both? Again, if I wait till october 20, i can take a look at my SAT retake as well, but I dont think its going to improve by too much.

my rank is top 4%, 4.0 GPA (at end of junior year), not many extracurriculars, 70hrs volunteer, and a summer research thing... how safe am I? is it necessary to put faculty of arts as first choice and environmental as second choice in a second application just to make sure i get in or some thing like that?

Thanks

McGill would probably say that your chances are not reduced by your Canadian citizenship, but some on this board would claim they are reduced. I would tend to side with McGill–it wants good students regardless of where they originate and it gets government money for the Canadian students it educates (and even more for the Quebec Canadians that it educates, hence the lower tuition for those from Quebec).

Thanks for the response. Can anyone help with the rest of the questions?

I applied extremely early in September, but I only sent the application in. I’m sending my transcript now and I’m sending my ACT scores once I take the test and receive the scores. I was in a similar position to you: I wanted my application IN. As long as everything it in before Jan 15, you can just apply and send the other documents later. I was told that putting in the application doesn’t heighten or lessen admissions chances, since McGill has to wait for second semester grades to make a final decision (not 100% sure on that). But, definitely get the second semester grades in ASAP once your semester is over. And about your AP Bio grade, it won’t show up on your transcript since you’re still taking the class; it’ll show up on your senior one though, which is sent after the sem. is over. So basically, you can bring it up as high as you can since you stil have time.

Sorry if that was incoherent. I was just rambling on what I thought.

Go ahead and send all of your SAT, SAT II and ACT scores. None of them are bad. Or, just send in your highest SAT and two highest SAT II scores along with ACT. It doesn’t really matter, they’re all fine. Just get what’s required in. I’m not entirely sure on this, and everyone is free to fix what I’ve said, but I think your ACT is (slightly) better than your SAT.

Very helpful, thanks. Anyone any comments on Faculty of Art vs Science? Art provides science minors but not majors. they’re all BA as well. If I want to attend an american med school afterwards this is a problem right? better to go science, or put environmental as secondary and switch to science end of freshman year?

or would it be wise to place the inter-faculty of arts and science as option 2?

I’m relatively sure that if you want to be in the interfaculty program, you must list it as your first choice. That’s what I applied to, and I seem to remember that requirement is stated while you fill out the application.

hey guys, 2290 on recent SAT. This is higher than both my ACTs and old SAT. McGill is one of the few that forces you to send ALL your SAT scores from all dates, so I had to send both. But now I wonder if they force me to send my ACT as well, if not, i’d rather not waste the money in sending 2 ACT scores that are lower than my SAT.

Also in my self reported online application to McGill, I only included the recent higher score and not the older lower one because I didn’t think they needed all of the scores. Is this a problem?

Should I remove the scores from my high school transcript, such as the ACT scores since i’m not sending them in? They’re not bad but I don’t know if it’s wise to leave them on.
