McGill Chances, PLEASE HELP!!

I am a US student from Florida.

I have had decent grades throughout high school. Maybe a 3.6 unweighted GPA

Sat I: Math-600 Reading-670 Writing-670

SatII: Math1-480 Literature-550 US History-540

I will have taken a total of 4 AP's upon graduating, with A's and B's in all of them. Plus countless honors.

I know my SATII are abominable but my best friend had died just a few days before, and I was a total mess. Is that something worth calling McGill about and explaining?

Ohh and I applied for the Bachelor of Arts and Science, AND the Faculty of Arts. Do they accept you from one and not the other?

It's my #1 choice, and I was just wondering if it's still worth aiming for.

Thanks!

Realistically, your SAT II scores are very low and I believe they would generally be problematic. Even with SAT 1 scores, they are right at the low/minimum end of the acceptance standard.

And yes, you can be accepted to one school and not the other. In this case, Faculty of Arts is much easier to be accepted into.

Try the ACT if you still can. That way you can waive the SAT II requirement. Score 29+ on the ACT (26+ on each subscore) and then the Faculty of Arts becomes a safety.

I don’t have time to take the ACT now.:frowning: Assuming my scores stay the same, do I have a chance at all? Like if my recommendations are good and all?

Recs hold very little weight, ECs even less (maybe a little more if waitlisted).

I’m afraid that McGill is a reach… however, if you still want to attend McGill, what you can do at this point is to attend another school, try to get a 3.6+ GPA (3.8+ is best if Arts and Science is still your first choice) at that other school and then attempt to transfer. I gave out these numbers because they were the safety lines for transfer admissions.
