McGill Decisions Class of 2021 (entering 2017)

@intstudent2021 did she say if it matters where you are from?

@ap828 no, she simply said that all would be out by this month end and “they are being released as we speak”

I called them this morning asking about my status ( RDP for nearly 3 months) and the last potential date of decision release. I was told that they couldn’t inform me on my application specifically and that mid may is their ESTIMATED deadline to release all the decisions…
I guess we just have to wait now…Good luck to all of you!

I got my result for both the schools today. Admitted to both. For faculty of science i am admitted as freshman orogramme and to engg admitted to undeclared…
Any one else…

Congrats @USUG21! When did you apply?

@politcaldoctor i applied 30th jan

Got admitted for BA.
Could somebody please tell me how I can get in touch with the current students? I have a lot of questions

@intstudent2021 McGill has a subreddit and there’s currently a q&a megathread for newly admitted students

I am an Indian student giving ISC this year. My application was just rejected because I did not meet their academic standards. I got 94% in my grade 10 board exams(ICSE) and my predicted grades for grade 12 are also 90%+. My school deflated grades in their internal exams, but I got commendations for academic excellence for those as well. Moreover, I am under the impression that they mostly look at the grades on the board exams and not the school ones. I am really confused as to why they rejected me. Any ideas/suggestions?

@mak2003 Lack of academic standards typically means you were missing perquisite classes.

Of course, if you applied into more competitive faculties (Management, Engineering, etc) you might not be competitive if you are in the lower 90’s.

If you are sure you have that covered, call them… You did not offer enough details to figure out what could have gone wrong.

@Braindrainer What else can I provide?

Could anyone who got accepted to BA&SC tell me your grades and scores? I’ve been waiting for three months and my status is still further review required. Also, do they look at your grades from gr 9-12 if you’re international?

@mak2003: what faculty? what are your scores for prereq classes in the faculty of your choice? What are your top 6?

There is little insight into ISC requirements at McGill (https://www.mcgill.ca/applying/requirements/minima/india) but be assured they are as rigorous as they are for domestic and US students. If you look at the minimum criteria, 90% might be good for some disciplines but not all…

I applied to the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science.

My marks in the grade 10 national exams are:

Mathematics:95
Science : Physics-A,Chemistry-A,Biology-A (combined marks of 96)
Computer Applications: 97(As I am applying to computer engineering)
English: 86
Social Sciences:95

My predicted grades in the class 12 national exams are

(As written in the official transcript)

Mathematics: 90+
English: 94
Physics: 95
Chemistry: 92
Computer Science:95
Environmental Science:90+

Also my TOEFL score is 112
SAT 1:1360/1600
SAT 2:
Physics:750
Chemistry:760
Mathematics 2:800

I have sent a mail to mcgill.admissions.ca seeking further clarifications.

Thanks again!!

@mak2003: You seem to have solid course work & grades! Science should be slightly easier than Comp Engineering or it was last year.

Technically, SAT is only required for US students. I am not sure what McGill does with SAT for international students.

If you were a US student and your SAT I is not balanced enough, that could have been an issue. Last year’s Engineering cut off was 670 in each section. Furthermore, no one actually knows how the new SAT I scoring will impact admissions. Some speculations suggest that the new SAT is ~25 points easier than the old standard for each section.

@Lins99 Wow, congratulations!!! I really hope I get in too! Can I ask you a question? Should I ask Mcgill whether if I am still missing something or should I just wait?

@Braindrainer Actually, I mentioned my SAT scores only after they rejected me in my follow-up email.
(As it was not a requirement for Indian students)

I thought they would atleast waitlist me instead of straight out rejecting me.LOL
Poking around in other forums and looking at other Indians who got accpeted, I was under the impression that I would be a strong applicant so this came as a surprise, to say the least.
