<p>$30979 only covers tuition and misc fees (health insurance etc) and NOT living expenses including housing and food. if you stay in rez, it will cost you upwards of $10000 more for 1 year. on top of that, books and other materials are extra.</p>

<p>all in all, you are looking at over 45-50k CAD.</p>

<p>first year undergraduates cannot work outside of campus because the law requires you to be in Canada first for at least 6 months (I think, double check on this) before you are eligible to apply for a work permit which allows you to work outside of campus. even then, you are only limited to 20 hours per week after your first year and assuming you successfully apply and get the work permit.</p>
