anyone planning on coming to the McGill open houses this year?

when are they?

xactly when are they..

there's one today! there are balloons, signs, and TONS of people all around campus. Judging by all the bags, the bookstore hasn't done this good of business since the start of school ;) They have a gorgeous day for it--like -2C and sunny.

I think there's another two or so this semester...but I'm not sure eactly when :) I will check up on that though, it's probably on the website too.

I may visit in summer :D (If I still decide to apply, that is.) Some of the threads on ******* make mcgill look unappealing to say the least :(

Still love it though (on paper)

for those interested: http://www.x oxohth.com/main.php?forum_id=1&qu=mcgill/url

They speak of grade deflation.

only -2C? I guess Montreal isn't as cold as I thought!

what are the asterisks for? Summer is a nice time to visit montr

Great i hope till i come, montreal becomes a bit warmer..

Here in Pak its like around 14 15 celcius in day time and its unbearable!!

14 15!!!

Try 40 Celcius in the summer here...that's right...40!!!!

harpgirl27: the asterisks are put in by CC; for some reason they think the web address should be filtered out. (I only know because I've tried to post a link from there on CC).

Spetsnaz Op: that site has 1 or 2 very vocal, shaw we say, snobs; you'll notice there are only 3 or so Ivy League schools that are considered good and pretty much everything else is either a TTT (third tier toilet in their lingo) or a "trade school" (this would include MIT & Cal Tech!). It was the first I ever realized that certain Ivy people think schools like Cornell & Penn are garbage. I'm quite sure those posters have never been to McGill; but the Canadian grade inflation issue is something to consider. So any way, read all you can everywhere you can, don't take anything as fact, see what common themes might be said about a school - but most of all talk to people who actually go to the school and visit it yourself. And thats what's available here at CC and thats what I'm trying to find out here.

Here are some other sites I found about McGill:

As an American, I am trying to determine whether the detriments of having a Canadian degree and college experience out weigh the benefits. I am trying to determine the portability of a Canadian bachelors degree especially for admission to top US grad schools because I like the idea of going for an economical undergrad school and not being in debt entering grad school (and possibly having money to study abroad or owning a car). The question that is hard to answer is where do schools like McGill and Queen's rank compared to US colleges?

Thankyou for the links mate, VERY informative

The mcgill website is confusing to me (as it is to everyone else it seems). I was reading one of the sites you linked and it said that in addition to the FAFSA there was a mcgill financial aid form as well. I don't remember filling this out, where can I find it? merci!

steve

website is awful. I would recommend, if you want to find something, doing a google search with parameters set to mcgill.ca. Much better than their craptacular search function.

If there is a McGill finaid form, it'd be under student accounts or financial aid...so you could try searching those, or just browsing around. I wouldn't hold your breath for financial aid from McGill though, they are notorious for being stingy. Not entirely their fault....blame le gouvernement du Quebec. Best of luck to you though :)
