I'm an american student who was just admitted to management.
One of my concerns with McGill is that it will be a completely different social scene than those in the United States. I really like going out on weekends, but without frats and sororities what are the parties like? also i know that the social scene is different in the sense that people go to a lot of bars and clubs- is this very expensive? basically just tell me anything i's want to know about the mcgill social scene.
thanks!

There are Frats and Sororities i just don't think they are officially recognised by the school. The party scene in montreal is great there's always a lot of fun to be had on any given weekend.

Management student eh? Well word on the street is that management kids party the hardest in McGill, so don't worry about the social life. You even get to celebrate frosh two times in the year (second being the Management Carnival in February). well the mcgill social scene is very happening with lots of new places to find. Generally if clubbing is your thing which your bound to do over here at least once, there's a host of clubs (for info try www.montrealguestlist.com), where you pay between $3-10 cover or reserve yourself on that website. Bars are great too and a lot of them are live band bars. If you go to old montreal, the area is predominantly french so clubs and bars have a very french/european atmosphere.

If you live at rez, parties should be happening almost everyday of the weekend (at least friday and saturdays). The McGill student society also arranges a lot of parties so that you can meet people out of the rez bubble too. Frats and sororities are available but not as popular here as they are in the states.

Lastly, you will be very well acquainted with montreal's social scene come frosh time. that's for sure.

im a high school student but my friends and i have gone to montreal a couple times this year and gone to a bunch of the popular student bars.......er not sure exactly what an "american social scene" is but im sure that it isn't that different. there are sport-ish bars and clubs, and the purpose of both is basically to get drunk, lol.....you can hang out at a pub with your friends and chill or you can get all dressed up and go dancing at a club-it depends on what you like. there'll be a lot of parties in rez and in houses/apartments when you're in upper years....and i don't see why these would be markedly different than frat parties-to me a house party is a house party and a kegger is a kegger......trust me there will be still be parties, they just won't be held at frat houses.
