McGill University '25 (entering fall '21) for US students - thoughts? doubts? stats? results?

Awesome! Are you also considering smaller liberal arts colleges? That is what my daughter is going through. She hasn’t heard yet from McGill, but did get accepted at U of T.

For US schools, I’m deciding between Wesleyan and William & Mary, but McGill is totally my top choice (still waiting to hear back though…) How about your daughter? And congrats on U of T!!

Those are great options, congrats! She is considering Macalester and U of T still. She got into UBC but I don’t think she wants to be so close to home. We are in Seattle. Similar issue with going big or small. She likes the option of being in or very close to a city.

Last minute - just double checking if we have paid $400 deposit for school that we are confirmed for May 1 deadline. There is nothing else we need to do ?

How’d it go? Curious to know where you ended up and if you know what you’d like to study?

Hi! How many people here had to accept another off at the May 1st deadline and missed out on McGill?

My D is in the gray zone at McGill and accepted elsewhere. Not sure if her status will ever change.

How long has she been “reviewed decision pending” and is it possible that McGill simply won’t respond? I’ve been “reviewed decision pending” for months now. The website says that U.S applicants will find out by mid-may latest

My daughter is still in review status and has decided to go elsewhere, absolutely ridiculous that they leave these kids just stuck in limbo forever. Honestly with the border still closed I’m glad she is staying in the U.S.

My son is an international student joining McGill this September. He is planning to stay at Molson Hall. If I go to visit him, is it possible to stay there for a couple of days, along with him? Do they allow guests to stay with the students over the weekend or should I book a hotel everytime I visit him? Thanks.

I didn’t realize they actually published a date by which we would hear, that’s progress. That has been her status for maybe a couple of weeks only. They requested her predicted IB scores in March and it took them about a month to review them. Apparently US apps were up by 40% this year. I have to think there will be kids declining their spots.

I ended up putting the deposit down at William & Mary! Still not exactly sure what I want to study… I’m kind of leaning towards anthropology/archaeology though. My McGill status is still reviewed decision pending and I really hope it’ll change soon! How about your daughter?

I accepted at a US school, but if I get into McGill I’ll probably accept that offer and lose the deposit money unfortunately. My status is “reviewed decision pending” and has been that way since the beginning of April.

My son has been “reviewed - decision pending” since mid-January. He was fortunately admitted to another faculty at McGill so the deposit will transfer if he’s admitted. Nice to know others are still in the same boat - hopefully they’ll stick to their mid-May deadline.

That’s amazing. Which faculty was he admitted to and which is he waiting to hear from?

So now are we all just waiting to see what mid-may means? Is this Friday wishful thinking…

Admitted to Arts, waiting on Desautels. Which are you waiting on? Keep us posted if you hear anything.

Waiting on Desautels as well. This, mid-May deadline is confusing. Guess we’ll just have to constantly check. Best of luck, I’ll keep you posted.

Losing hope a bit… I’ve been reading through the Reddit threads and it seemed like people with higher averages are getting rejected recently just because McGill is looking at their application later. I don’t understand how their system works… it seems unfair to accept people with lower averages and reject those with higher ones, just because of the time their application is reviewed.

Similar thoughts as well. This has a been such a strange year in the states for admissions, I hoped McGills approach would be super clear, but it does not seem to be. Mid May should be soon!
