Here is the deal, I am really conflicted with these two colleges and my parents aren't providing much help. My goal is to go through biology in either Unversity of Washington, Seattle or Mcgill. I am a Canadian Citizen living in the U.S, so I will receive Canadian tuition at Mcgill. There is a humongous difference in costs where at Mcgill I will be paying around $18,000 while at Seattle i'll be paying around $43,000 per year.

Mcgill seems like the better option due to its cost, but what has caused me to falter is whether or not I am able to have an equal opportunity to attend med school. I am told that many U.S. Med schools would look down upon getting a Canadian degree, even at Mcgill, and i'd be put after U.S. applicants.

I am trying to figure out if that is true... Will going to Mcgill weaken my chances to get to med school (Canada and U.S.) compared to UW?

If you have any links, personal advice, sources, I'd love to see them myself!

All Canadian medical schools are fully accredited by the American LCME. If you are a Canadian citizen (not a dual citizen) you will be at a disadvantage in getting into many if not most American medical schools regardless of whether you do your undergraduate work in the US or Canada.

OK, that’s makes a difference. A US or dual citizen graduating from McGill will be considered ny medical schools on an equal basis with Americans graduating from a US university.

Who told you you would be at a disadvantage: a 17 year old know-it-all?

You will also save $100,000 over four years at McGill which will ease the financial burden on you and your parents when you enter medical school.

The big issue that people point out is that Mcgill isn’t changing its curriculum for the reformatting the MCAT’s will undergo in 2015, as they specifically don’t prepare you for med-school. UW while not having a specific pre-med program, does have a reconstruction of curriculum for those interested in pre-med from what I’ve heard.

Those who told me I would be at a disadvantage are actual graduates from Mcgill who were interested into going to med-school. Multiple professors some from Mcgill, some at my local university, and all of them suggest I should attend UW over Mcgill.
