Should I go to Washington University in St. Louis or the University of Toronto. I want to major in biology and go on to become a doctor. I'm mostly concerned about academics/prestige of the schools since I'm sure I'll have a good time wherever I go. The only other issue is a question of cost. I didn't get any financial aid from WashU so I'd have to pay the full $35000 tution and University of Toronto costs next to nothing (4000-5000 tuition).

This one should be a no-brainer - Univ. of Toronto. If you excel there, you will get into a superb med school and then you can pay over $200,000 for medical school (if you go in the States) and really be in debt. Wash U. is superb but so is Univ. of Toronto and I think equally respected. If you are Canadian and want to go to med. school in the States, you still might not have an edge getting into med. school coming from a US school. If that is your goal, you should find out the chances of getting into medical school in the US if you are Canadian and see if the tuition of undergraduate school is worth the cost.

VodkaS-I asked several Wash U. attendings who all felt that McGuill was superior to Toronto. All felt that McGuill was the most respected Canandian University, premed program and residency program in Canada. However, they also all agreed that Univ. of Toronto was an excellent institution. Both institutions do not easily (if at all) accept US citizens to study in Canada, which is why (if Kayan is Canadian), should find out if many Canadians are accepted into med. school in the US. The cost for a Canadian to study in the US without scholarship money would be outrageously high, especially for an undergraduate education.

Many academic Canadian physicians try to move to the US because the US hospitals have better facilities and the pay is better.
