Hi! I've been admitted into the Biochemistry program in both McGill and Imperial, and I cannot decide where to go! Both London and Montreal got there own pros and cons, and it all comes down to the quality of teaching and prestige. In Imperial, on top of the lectures, there are small tutorial groups every week. In McGill, I heard that there can be up to hundreds of people in the same class... IDK but that sounds pretty bad IMO! Also on many rankings Imperial>McGill...Do you think I should go to Imperial(base on academic and teaching Quality)??

which ones a better fit in terms of quality of life for you? college isnt stricly 100% academics

Depends on what you are studying. I faced the same choices last years. If you’re studying engineering, trust me, the cost of attending Imperial does not justify the puny engineering’s salary in UK. If you plan to go on grad school, both are just as good, but McGill MIGHT give you an edge on applying to north american grad schools.

There are tutorial sections for many classes at McGill too. I don’t know bout Imperial College, but in terms of academic quality you can’t go wrong at McGill. If you want to go to grad school, no university will reject you on the basis of going to either school for undergrad.

The issue becomes more about what environment you want to study in and what are you looking for in your university experience outside of academics. If you’re looking for small classes and individual attention, McGill may not for you (then again, I know nothing about Imperial College class sizes). But one shouldn’t discount McGill just on class size (let me repeat that very large classes occur mostly in the first 2 years, depending on the program). Just because you’re used to smaller classes doesn’t mean you can’t succeed in large ones; if you’re independent enough to seek the attention of profs when you need to, class size shouldn’t be a problem.

Hey joshua24820…

I’m just finishing my BSc in Biochem at Imperial College. I’m also a Canadian and my sister is actually starting at McGill this year for Biomed. So, I’m in quite a good position to answer ur query!

If u want to stay in research and biochemistry, choose Imperial. You’ll go far further more quickly with this degree and the experience.

If u want to do medicine at some point go to McGill.

If u just want to make money either will do. London is the financial capital of the world. And an undergrad from Canada will open up the US job market to you.

Good luck!
