Hi,

I'm having troubles deciding between going to McGill or Imperial for an undergraduate biochemistry course. Obviously, London and Montreal have very different lifestyles, however I was wondering how they compare academically. Also, what are the job prospects after graduating from either Imperial or McGill? I'm interested in going into the pharmaceutical industry later on, however I'm not sure about that..

Times Higher Education ranks Imperial higher than McGill, and they’re the rankings I trust the most. (10 vs 35). Imperial College is much more science based than McGill, so you’d generally have some things McGill might not offer. I also know that a lot of UK universities have courses that will have something like “with a year in Industry” which is great, and I’ve never heard about such in Canada, but you can check that out yourself… Both universities would be impressive Worldwide, to the employers that matter, but I think Imperial has more of an edge. :)

Imperial College is the only university in UK which has ever outranked Oxford and Cambridge once. So, I think the difference in prestige is pretty huge. I am sure McGill is a very good university, but it is not in the same league with Oxford or Cambridge. If money is not an issue, go with Imperial.
