Hi, I’m a first year student at University of Victoria. I’m planning to transfer to either Mcgill, U of T or UBC and I believe I have a pretty good chance in any of those since my gpa is pretty good.
My question is this: I’m majoring in Economics and I would appreciate if you could help me choose which is the best school for Economics among them (in terms of reputation (national and international), academics, faculties and so on)
For economics probably U of T. The faculty isn’t as prestigious as Rotman, but on an international level it’s probably more well-known than either McGill or UBC. You’d have to look specifically at their transfer policies, though.
If you want to work in banking/finance then Toronto has advantages. If you see yourself in policy (gov’t) then McGill has advantages with its closer proximity to Ottawa, plus learning French. If you have family in BC or perhaps want to continue on to grad school, UBC is sensible, or just stay at UVic and move for grad school.
–Is grad school in the cards?
–Where (location) do you want to work?
–What kind of work?
–Why do you want to transfer?
