the ever unhelpful McGill website resisted my efforts to search for job opportunities, but my friend from New York/Kyrgisztan (probably mangled that spelling really bad...) just started at his job today...have to ask him how he found about it. I know for sure he's not doing work study, he just wants the spending money.

ciao :)
noelle

oh wow, so i have an 87 un weighted, so thats an A in canada, because they say on
thier website B+ in all cources, so that means anything above an 83? for that would be awesome, wonderfully awesome, yep history, probably a concentration in euro, thanks for all your help

Yeah, you should be able to get into arts. If you were trying for something like engineering, your stats would be much more iffy, but for general arts, I'd give you a good shot of getting in.

Ohh I had the longest conversation at my church with a european history prof at McGill..he seemed like a totally cool guy--he was from Wisconson, so we talked about the US a bit, and then anyway I sort of got invited on a reatreat he does mainly for arts students...hehe, so the euro history program gets a major thumbs up from me right now ;)

sounds good, i really must give you my thanks, i know everyone suffers from it, but its killing me to wait, not the waiting, but not knowing, youve helped me relax,or perhaps it was the pot, jk jk, twas you, so thank you, just as a side, what are you majoring in and how good is your french

ohh I know..I was a nervous wreak all of last year. I had good stats but I knew no one who was applying to Canadian schools so I had no idea of what my chances would be. Then when mcgill lost part of my app and I didn't hear back from them till May...that was a severe trial on my patience. All my friends knew where they were going and I still didn't...

LOL@the pot comment ;) In all seriousness, if you do smoke you couldn't pick a better place for it than montreal. Everyone smokes pot it seems, and no one cares (not even the cops). Go to Mont Royal parc anytime. ROFL.

lol, im sure youlle read the other comment, im not as bad as it sounds, i just enjoy on occasion a good bowl of whatever

I'm a general science major looking to major in either biochem, or transfer to chemical engineering. Can't decide ;)

My french is pretty good. I studied up through AP french in the states (4 long years of school french), didn't take the AP test. it has gotten a lot better since coming here, because I've made an effort to improve it. I have friends who are francophone, friends who are fluent, and friends who don't speak a word of french. All do just fine ;)

One thing you do learn is that actual french is different than school french, by a lot. And Quebecois is quite different from france french! Mostly though, the grammar will help you but you will have to learn all the vocabulary that's actually useful.

haha, I didn't take it bad. Many of my neighbors smoke on occasion....and they are awesome people who definitely aren't your stereotypical "potheads"

from what i understand and saw, shisha is a big thing, which is cool because i love it, but it does stink up a lot of everywhere

lol, true true. Which is why the policy in the dorms is one of smelling..."if you can smell it in the halls, you're gonna get busted"

Actually, McGill dorms have two rules
1. Respect
2. don't F**K with the fire equipment.

I am dead serious...this is what they told us at our first hall meeting. In a way it's good, because I think by treating us like adults and not burdening us with a bunch of stupid rules, we behave more like adults and don't do stupid stuff. But this wasn't entirely comforting to my parents ;)

to any parents reading out there..McGill dorms are perfectly safe, and no bad incident has happened yet ;)

except munchies, which canada has far superior sweets to cure, but the food in some places is lacking

Yeah, as in McGill Rezs, where the food definitely starts to suck after awhile...but the city itself has awesome food. Thanksgiving today, no school break for us!

yeah, the rez food from what i tasted, was, well, it was crap, no offencse to them but it was like the stuff you might eat at like a pit stop on a road trip, but they do have some awesome resturants, and a great mid east thing

New Rez has the nicest meal plan. And if you don't mind cooking for yourselves, the apartment style rezes are awesome.

Harpgirl,

Were your freshman classes unbearably huge?

And what do you think of my chances?
3.6 UW, 1450/780/770/700
Leadership Positions, etc.

you are in, don worry, not to say it again, but im worried for my own ass

hey Elizabeth,

were my frosh classes huge...well, some were, some weren't. The required arts/science courses tend to be very large, while more specialized classes like seminars and foreign languages are much smaller. My smallest class is french, with 13 people. My biggest class is around 500 (chemistry). Still, I wouldn't call it "unbearable". I've spoken one on one with my teachers a couple of times, they have "message boards" on the internet for the class, which affords you a chance to have some diologue with the profs and other students.

I guess if you want to avoid "les cours magistrals", as they'd say in french, my advice would be to take a freshman seminar, take some placement tests to get out of the 101 or intro level classes, and then take more specialized subjects on things that interest you.

Oh and from what I've seen, with a few exceptions courses get much smaller in subsequent years ;)

Your chances are excellent. I would be waiting for an acceptance letter.

Bonne chance,
noelle

oh yeah, there's a debate going about getting the new rez mealplan applied to the other residences like RVC, BMH, etc. I don't know if that would affect anyone's housing plans, but I will keep you posted on the fallout of that ;) Right now, the general consensus is against it (why, I have NO idea).

do you by chance know when concordia does thier admissions?

i think their application deadline is feb. 1st for international applicants and march 1st for canadians, but I am in no way sure so you'll want to doublecheck this at their website: www.concordia.ca
