McGill!!

I don't know about the others, but i did mainly because they were cheaper and I knew i wanted out of Seattle, Washington, but couldn't really afford out of state tuition at most really good schools in the US.

1st semester lectures over at McGill! exams starting...now..uh...wohoo...yeah. my first one is on Thursday is nervous (calculus).

gross....math. I feel for you.

ugh, i know. actually i am much more scared for physics than for calc, but those two will be my hardest exams.

btw, some McGill photos for y'all to enjoy ;)

sunset from RVC, looking over d-town montreal

I applied to McGill ( their website is kind bad though...) and it's up there as one of my choices. My first choice is Penn though. McGill is really a safety school for me, which is kinda funny, cause when I was in Canada McGill was my dream school and I always heard how hard it was to be accepted if your're Canadian.

But guys, have u ever noticed something? Montreal is a great city and all, but McGill itself seems to be pretty behind on the tech scale. The computers in the libraries are pretty bad...and I don't know, it just doesn't seem it has any extra money to spend.

donc tu es un anglophone montr

translation for those who can't cipher through my french..haha

so, you're an english montrealer? that's pretty cool :) i think that if you were to return to mtl, you'd find that you remember a lot of french. I agree with you that the McGill website sucks.

McGill is an excellentuniversity, but you're right, the government doesn't give them enough money, so the computers and techology in general aren't up to date. However I find that everyone has a laptop, so myself, I never use the school computers--the wireless network is good enough that I can access the internet/network from my lapop in any of my classrooms.

Anyway, good luck on your applications!

Hey,

does anyone know how McGill's English program is? McGill was initially my first choice, but when I looked up the courses for English, I found mostly literature history studies classes, which made me skeptical. (I'm interested in writing). Please share any info if you have it.

thank you

translation: She asked: Why do many americans like McGill? you don't want to stay in the US? I'm canadian but I live in Iowa.

I answered:
are you Quebecois also?

I think that many americans like mcgill because it's much cheaper than american universities. Tuition for Us students is approx. 10,000--compare to cornell, with tuition around 30,000! In addition, montreal is a very multicultural city. Americans like hte idea that they live in a foreign country but not too far from the USA. Also, those americans who know of McGill consider it to be like Harvard..lol...but it's great for those of us who want to find a job with a McGill degree!!

With regard to McGill's english program....I know McGill's strength is not in creative writing. Many McGill students, however, get a McGill degree in english while taking courses at Concordia in creative writing. Concordia has a strong field in that department, with much more varied choices, but the McGill degree overall is a stronger degree to have.

However I honestly don't know much about the english department...i will have to ask some of my arts friends :)

noelle

Ce n'est pas la m

donc tu as aim

harpgirl27,
Je ne suis pas une quebecoise. Je suis ne a Winnipeg. Ainsi, je ne peux pas parler francais plus bon.

How do you make accents?

I set my computer's language to french, because i had a lot of papers and stuff to type for my french class this semester. I got used to it, so i left it that way ;)

I cheat, and cut and paste, because I can't figure out how to work it otherwise.... stupid mac.

What is the Philosophy program like at mcgill? and on a completely unrelated note, hows the party scene there? ;)

utlisez les ALT + un combination de num

all of a sudden we turned bi lingual, i wish i new more french

haha I know....it's amusing because as far as I can tell, everyone posting in this thread is a native english speaker. I've been trying my best to translate though...which leads me to a point:

Guys, posting in french is awesome, keep it up, but it would be great if for the non french speakers on this board that you provided at least a rough translation into english. If you happen to be francophone and can't provide a translation, I'll be happy to do it :) but you guys are asking legitimate questions that shouldn't be excluded to people who don't know french.
