I just had a couple of questions I don't know whehter this is the right place or not but here it goes. I plan on applying to Mcintire for the Fall 2012 Semester and I was looking at the prerequisites on their website and under them they suggest that one should take a programming class. Does anyone know anymore about this? such as does it really effect your admission? I plan to have a 4.0 in the prereqs with just a couple classes to go and would prefer not to take a programming class if I really don't have to. Also another question can I test out for the language requirement? I know my brother did it but he didn't go to Mcintire he was a CS major. any help is appreciated

I don’t know about the programming course, so hoping someone will have some info. for you.

You can test out of the language requirement. Someone posted with on another thread (either through SAT II or the UVA placement tests scores):

[Foreign Language Placement Index — Undergraduate, College of Arts & Sciences, U.Va.](http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/college/requirements/competency/language_placement_index.html#spanish)

I noticed you are currently a student at GMU. In regards to your McIntire question, if you are looking to concentrate in Finance then it is ‘suggested’. This means you can take it or not it is your decision. There is a reason for this course for those individuals. Investigate the courses at UVa and the careers associated with this area of concentration.

For the foreign language placement, go to the referenced link and read the particulars for each language. There are perimeters set in place for each one as to when you may take the exam. Since you are applying as a transfer I am sure that if/when you are accepted you will take it in August of 2012. You can only take these exams as an accepted student.

Hope this helps, best of luck to you as you proceed through the transfer process for all of your schools!

Thanks for the link, also to “woosah” it says I can only take the test in the first three weeks of the semester, do you know if this aplies to the summer session as well? From what I have heard from a couple of friends is that you must have all the language requirements done before you start any classes. I have emailed a counselor at the school but just thought I could get a different point of view from someone who has actually gone through it. Thanks for the answers again

If I were you I would contact the Department for that language and ask them specifically. I think you are in a catch 22. You are going to apply as a transfer to UVa hence you do not know if you are an accepted student, however you need to have the language requirement completed prior to matriculating in the fall for McIntire. Just explain your situation in a well thought out email and ask them about it as it specifically pertains to you. Because if you place out that is one less thing to worry about completing. : )

If you’re accepted you take the placement test in the summer. I didn’t take a programming class and was accepted as an external transfer to McIntire.

You don’t need a programming class. It may help for one or two of the it-based finance classes, but should not affect your chance of getting in.
