MD/MPH

How do these joint programs work, and how long does it take to get a MPH degree separately?

Also, what exactly is an MPH degree & the kinds of careers available?

Thanks in advance for your help!

MPH is a Master's of Public Health.

The length of the program will vary between schools. Usually, a student would spend 2 or 3 years in medical school, complete the MPH portion in 1 year, then return to finish medical school (total 5 years). Other programs will integrate the MPH curriculum into the regular medical school curriculum and allow you to graduate with both degrees in 4 years. I think it takes about 4 years to do the MPH by itself, but I'm not entirely sure.

This websites has some pros and cons for doing the degrees together and separately:http://www.amsa.org/cph/mdmphhowto.cfm

This website has a list of schools that offer a MD/MPH program:http://services.aamc.org/currdir/section3/degree2.cfm?data=yes&program=mdmph I don't know how complete it is, or how up-to-date it is.

I think it's more like 18-24 months to do the MPH by itself.
