Md scholarships

Okay, so DS carried 35 credits this yr and has overall GPA was 3.196. We received a letter stating he is now on probation for loss of scholarship since he doesn't have a 3.2 cum. It doesn't matter that is 0.04 off of a 3.2! I love UMD for the school, but as far as Scholarships and FA they are the worse! It didn't matter to them that because of scholars and ROTC requirements, plus a dual major he was forced to carry a heavier load than the avg scholarship student. If you avg it he was close to 18 credits per semester and carried IMHO a B avg.
Add this into the fact that he placed out of freshman courses nad taking upper classman classes. SO beware!

Warning to all scholarship students they aren't joking about the 3.2, if a 3.196 places you on probation than you know they are serious.

This is truly when I get ticked at UMD and their Football/Basketball program! I know they bring in the money, but to threaten to pull a 3.196 gpa students scholarship that is in the Scholars program and carrying 35 credits per yr IMHO is warped! This is a Presidential not a B/K.

DONE VENTING, and I hope all of you on scholarship take this as a warning!

One of our s’s best friends lost her B/K free ride but she was way below the 3.2 requirement. I asked her what the problem was and she just said she was having too much fun to study. She still has an opportunity to get her grades up and be reinstated, however, it’s unlikely she’ll be able to pull it off.

Our s had mono the first semester and dropped a class (Russian) but was able to finish the semester in good standing. He took midterms with a fever over 103 degrees.

Your s seems to have a very good chance of getting his grades above the required 3.2. Remember some schools require a 3.5 minimum, then again some only require a 3.0.

Ouch. This is harsh. I’ll be sure to pass along to my new terp.

I have no worry that he will get it back, just ticked that they took the gpa out that far!

Really! Maybe they should say that a 3.200 GPA is required to keep the scholarship!!!

Maybe I’m reading that wrong, but they do say that.

Did they take it away from him or does he have a semester to get it back up before they take it? I was under the impression that if you dropped below the probation gives you a semester to get it up without losing anything.

Yes he has a semester to get it back up

How does “freshman forgiveness” play into this or does it? Is “freshman forgiveness” considered for B/K Scholarship recipients?

Oh I know. I got put on probation after my first semester with a 3.176.

I’m pretty (but not 100%) sure freshman forgiveness applies to scholarships because they replace the grade in your GPA calculation. Good question though. I thought about doing it, but then I realized I NEVER want to take calculus II or chemistry ever again and will live with the C’s.
