me and this frat

so i'm thinking abotu discontinuing being a member of this frat i'm in.

I still dont really feel I "click" with anyone that well in my new fraternity. we don't seem to have much in common. i've been an active for a whole semester after pledging. this fraternity is not your stereotypcial fraternity. the guys dont party much and arent jerks.

the problem is that i live at the house right now. im pretty sure that if i stop being a member, though they'll still be ok with me living there as long as i pay my bills, i'll be frowned upon and possibly treated like dirt, but i dont know. they seem nice, but i dont think theyll like the idea of me not being a member yet still living there

i want to still live there since 1 of my best friends lives there but isnt a member. if i move out and stop being an active, where will i go?

im a rather shy, socially awkward person so its really hard for me to get along with new people and make friends, which is why i dont want to leave my friend who lives there

You know this is where all your problems are stemming from, right?

You should fix these negative qualities first, and I'm sure you'll then learn to get along with people regardless of whether or not you have the same interests.

i forgot to mention one more thing:

our meetings are every wednesdays nights. but thats alsp the same nights that this tutoring club meets, that i'm trying to be more active in. the tutoring club helps with tutoring middle school students

i would rather help with tutoring than attend the frat meetings, which are mandatory yet pointless to attend. also, im sure tutoring will look better on my resume

i also forgot to mention that, if i decide to stop my membership, i plan on lying by saying that i wish to be a member but want to withdraw only for the spring semester because i'm really busy with 5 classes and research but will stay active after this semester ends, when in actuality i will withdraw after the spring sememster ends by living elsewhere next year

have you asked if the tutoring club meetings are a reasonable excuse for missing brothers' meetings? You might get excused and then you just have to read the minutes. Have you tried moving either your brothers' meeting or tutoring club meeting?

have you spoken to anyone (your big bro, the chapter pesident) about how you're feeling? The first semester in house is often a bit of a transition period. Do not lie, and do not leave without talking to people first. As a former chapter president, I can tell you it was crushing to have a member leave simply because "he wasn't feeling it" when he didn't mention to anyone what he was feeling until after he quit.

i have told them about the tutoring club meetings, and they dont think its a good excuse. they keep saying taht since i took the oath to become a member, i should come to every meeting unless i have a better excuse, like studying for midterms. i cant move either my frat or tutoring club meetings since theyre on the same night, almost same time

yes, i've spoken to the current rush chair about how i'm feeling. he said that it can be difficult to fit in if you're new and that everyone adjusts at different rates. he said that its alright if i quit, they won't get mad or anything at me. but he seems like one of the nicer guys in the frat

i mean, i just dont fit in with these guys. i would say i'm only actually friends with maybe 2 out of the 25 members? oh, and the one i probably 'click' with best is an alumni still living there
