I understand that when you sign up for the meal plan you commit for the whole year. Does anyone know if you can change to a different kind of plan for the second semester? You know, like upgrade?

You can upgrade at anytime, the prorate the upgrade. You can not down grade.

so if you really like the meal plan and you only bought the 150 meals, you could go ahead right now and upgrade to unlimited instead of letting the 150 run out and then pay cash or whatever? And it would be cheaper I guess, because it's like $7 a meal on the 150 and I think only $3 or something on the unlimited.

If you buy the 150 plan, you find that you eat more and will run out of meals you can up grade. My son is so busy that he hardly eats, at home he ate alot. You mostly likely won't know how many meals you will use until you are here.

I got the 150-meal plan for my daughter. Right now, she has used about 30 of the 150, or 20%. You also get $300 Flexbucks with that one of which she has used about $100, or 33%.

I also bought her a refrigerator ($99 at Sam's Club) so she can have milk, yogurt, veggies, etc. The plan was for her to each most breakfasts and some snacks at her room.

The semester is about 16 weeks long and she been there about 4 weeks or 25% complete. So she is slightly under for her meal usage and slightly over for Flexbucks usage. So I think that plan is good one for her.

I converted from the 150 plan to declining balance. I still have to put an amount equal to the cost of the 150 plan into my declining balance account next semester, but since the money doesn't expire, it's not a big deal. I love declining balance. It's more expensive if you eat in the dining hall every day, but I do not do that. No one does. It's not that great.

That's a great idea Chandra. I've found I've only used 15 meals so far out of the 150. That'll be like 800 more flexbucks right? Definitely just using declining balance next semester, I don't eat at the halls too often, I'm just too lazy lol

you'll get tired of the food trust me, i though i wouldn't but you will, the only thing you'll love on the regular is breakfast other than that you'll hate it after about 6-8 weeks

i didn't get a meal plan. i just got declining balance which i hardly ever use. you end up going off campus a lot to eat if you go out.

How's the quality of the food?

the food is hit or miss...sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. they serve the same thing for lunch and dinner...so i wouldn't suggest getting a 2 meal per day meal plan because i don't think anyone actually eats there twice a day.

I don't have a meal plan. I have declining balance, which enables me to eat at places like Subway, Starbucks, Einstein Bagels, Chick-fil-A, Quiznos, the noodle place in Reitz, Wendys...basically anywhere on campus (including the dining halls, but it's approx $7.50 (?) to eat there without a meal plan). Most of my friends who got meal plans wish that they would have gotten declining balance instead...

I'm not sure whether to expect microvable food, cafeteria food like salsbury steak with a small side of corn and vegetables, or really good food. I pretty much wanna save money, and since I'm into weight training I eat tons of food. The meal plan sounds intriguing thus far.

The quality may not be the greatest, but you can't beat the convenience.

SeanBateman1999 where do you live? If you live within a couple hours drive to campus or are coming for a college tour go check out the dining halls.

I havent been back to broward lately or gator dining but I heard gator dining was better. I have declining balance since I eat at my sorority house but broward would probably be where I would be eating just because its so close.

I'm going up for orientation in December. I'll be sure to check it out then.

I think the food is pretty good...but I've only eaten at Gator Corner? Dining? like once. There's a variety and you can get a to go box too. They make pasta and sandwiches for you. It's good. =)
