Does anyone know if meal plans can be put under the Parent PLUS loan? I will most likely choose the 10 meals/week and for the two semesters the cost comes to about $3900. My parents were also going to defer the loan so is it possible to do that along with having the additional money requested for a meal plan?

Your Parent Plus loan goes onto your NYU account and can be applied to any of your NYU charges - room and board, tuition, fees, etc. If you end up with additional funds after your bursar bill is paid, they send the balance of the loan either to you or your student, whichever you designated for refunds.

Also, you might consider a flexible meal plan rather that set number per week. On the set number of meals plan, it’s use em or lose em every week whereas you have the flexible ones to spend over the whole semester…and can even swipe in a visitor if you have one. Some weeks you may too busy, or sick, or not hungry to use your meals…

okay thanks so much for your help!

No problem, there’s lots of people on CC who have been through all this confusing stuff and want to help those who are new to it!!!

Yeah I was wondering because the cost of the minimum freshman meal plan at NYU is $1930 (175 flex or 10/week is the min. for freshman) and I didn’t want to get hit with that bill in August all at once.

Just to clarify, that can be paid for with the PLUS-loan or other student loan then?

Thanks!

Yes. It is all put on your bill an d you pay wkth whatever scholarships, loans or grants u have.

@viacollege yea, my parents were worried about having to put up all that money at once. and it’s crazy that the min cost of $1930 is not even for a whole year, but rather a SEMESTER and the fact that my parents need to defer the plus loan also helps. there is less stress on how much needs to be paid on a monthly basis. it’s just easier i guess.
