“The program is offered to attract individuals from rural areas, low socioeconomic status backgrounds, and underrepresented minorities, although acceptance is not limited to individuals from these groups”
The cost of attendance is close to $40,000 and the acceptance rate to the DO school was 65% last reported.
EDIT: nvm, remembered tuition does not equal COA but still not sure how 16k tuition turns into 40k COA
This program is heavily biased to VA residents. You should search for it on Sdn there are tons of postings year over year.
@artloversplus I also read that they have some preference for veterans or service members. would my background with Army reserve be any beneficial for getting into program?
Yes, it might give you an edge. But the chances for you to become a doctor is still around 25-30%.
- 50% chance for you to get into the program that is assume you did well in the post bacc.
- 50-60% to get into a medical school after going through the program
- Chances of failing in the med school or not being matched.
The total cost, will be around $250,000. And before even you do that, call the school and ask if they will take a 2 year college credentials for pre-req.

There are many more Smp programs offered by DO schools you should explore.
@artloversplus Thank you for the list of SMP’s.
Also I appreciate all other suggestions.
