I was wondering if I have Medi-Cal, can I use it to replace the Student Health Insurance Plan? I couldn’t find a phone number or e-mail on the Cowell Student Health Website.

thanks

If your have other insurance, then you can sign a waiver so that you don't have to pay for SHIP. There are deadlines for the waiver though, so I'd check the website again to find the waiver & the deadline info.

The waiver web site asks you to input the information on your insurance and they will then either grant the waiver or not, depending on your information. However, one of the stipulations about equivalent care is that you have a primary care doc w/in 150 mi of UCD. You might also be limited in the Davis area for which medical groups will accept MediCal patients.

Kaiser Permanente will not work with the on-campus Cowell Health Center. For example: if you need to get something done at Cowell (medicine, checkup) you have to pay lots of money for the prescriptions and stuff since Kaiser does not accept Cowell and your insurance will not apply.

I am studying abroad, but during the process I had to get immunizations/prescription oral immunization/health seminar/and nurse checkup which cost me $150 (still saved $$ by using the waiver). I had originally gotten it at Kaiser but the lady for my program told me to redo EVERYTHING at Cowell. There may be other things that require you to use Cowell too, keep that in mind.
