hey has anyone who has kaiser health insurance found other providers in the santa barbara area? basically im just looking for a way to not have to sign with the schools SHIP program since it is so expensive! if you've found any alternatives such as doctors that accept kaiser insurance in sb please let me know! :)

nvmmmm, i got mine waived!!! whoooo

really? i don’t think SHIP is “that” expensive, since it pretty much covers all health-based needs including dental and eye. i mean, you still have to pay a discounted price, but i don’t remember kaiser being that much better. all in all, i took SHIP for its convenience.

it is expensive when you already have to pay so much for school without finaid and when your kaiser insurance is free
dont make assumptions because what one may consider cheap is expensive to someone else

So how’d you get it waved?

I never said “cheap.”

Don’t get butt-hurt for another poster innocently responding to a thread that didn’t mention the reasoning behind it. Had I known of your previous situation, I would not have had replied at all.

Fill out a waiver on the SHIP site.

what? How’d you get it waived? The lady on the phone sounded pretty insistent on not being able to get out if I had kasier insurance. Although I still tried but was denied. So how? so I can hopefully get out for winter quarter.

unfortunately, the deadline was september 1. as for kaiser insurance, i vaguely remember reading it was not “recommended,” but i dont know too much about that.

I have kaiser too and I remember reading something saying if you have kaiser you’re not gonna be able to get it waved.

the deadline is technically september 15th with a $50 late fee. i got it waived because i explained that i don’t mind driving/getting to the nearest kaiser facility on my own for primary care services, which is in ventura and said that i will be traveling quite often between my hometown and ucsb. in addition, once my waiver was ‘accepted’, i had to sign a form stating that i release the school of all responsibilities in relation to health care. fyi, kaiser pays for emergency care costs, so you only have to worry for primary care services. i changed my doctor to one at the ventura facility and all that jazz. hope that helps!

“fyi, kaiser pays for emergency care costs”

Better read the fine print before you try that.

i already called and talked to a kaiser representative who clearly outlined what was covered.

Good move.

hrm, I won’t have a car, but I don’t mind taking the bus. Especially since it’ll only be for non-urgent care. If it’s not an emergency I don’t think I’ll have to worry about dying before I reach the Ventura hospital and I guess if it is an emergency then kaiser will cover it. You think that’d work? xD or can I just say I drive?

just say you drive; it’s none of their business anyways.
