Medical Laboratory Sciences vs. Biochemistry Major

Science of the human body with a molecular/micro/nano approach is the body of knowledge I’m interested in pursuing. I would love to work in the medical field eventually, however am steering clear of med school.

Unless anyone has any other suggestions, it seems the most appropriate thing to do is obtain accreditation as an MLS, DMS, HTL, etc… And because I enjoy the science/theory so much, I planned on majoring in biochemistry (chemistry with biochem emphasis), however my school also offers a Medical Laboratory Science major.

If I were dead set on the career, there wouldn’t be the question to switch tracks and major in Medical Laboratory. But with my passion for extensive knowledge in many subjects, I’m weary of narrowing the scope of my education for education’s sake.

Any comments or suggestions?

It seems you’re trying to decide between Medical Laboratory Science or Biochemistry as your major. I’m guessing that you are attracted to Medical Laboratory Science because of the job security associated. If I were in your position I would look at the exact Medical Laboratory Science coursework at your school to see if it provides enough theory to satisfy your appetite for that (it might). If not, a double major or a Medical Laboratory Science major with a minor in, or simply electives in, biochemistry/molecular biology/whatever-else interests-you could be indicated.
