Medical Leave

My university's financial aid office has been extremely confusing about this and I was hoping somebody might be able to explain to me what's going on here. I took a medical leave of absence the first week of February this semester, and so attended my university for about a week. I was informed that I'd be receiving about a 60% tuition refund in accordance with the date of the leave of absence.
I received a decent finaid package from Duke, and all my costs are covered between my parents' PLUS loans ($6k per semester), my small loan (about $1.2k per semester), and the university scholarship ($19k per semester), so I don't pay anything directly out of pocket. The finaid office reduced the total loan amount on my package for the semester last month to 'reflect the amount of time' that I'd actually attended. So I'm still paying money for the amount of time that I attended, but I received a bill from the bursar's office last week saying I have to pay about $4k still? Isn't that like paying the full tuition for the semester? That was about the amount that my parents' loans were refunded by, so if I paid that amount, it'd mean that only my loan was refunded. I am extremely confused, not sure if the Bursar's Office knows that I actually took a leave of absence, and very strapped for time (the bill is due in a week).

I apologize if the post was confusing, because I am extremely confused at the moment, and parents are also very angry at me (or the school, or both) because of the situation.

You need to contact the school FA office and ask them to explain it to you and your parents.

Forward the information regarding the approval of your medical leave to the tuition office.

“Forward the information regarding the approval of your medical leave to the tuition office.”

Sometimes departments within a college don’t communicate with each other even when they are right across the hall.

Well apparently the Dean’s Office, the Financial Aid Office, and the Bursar’s Office hadn’t been communicating at all, so adjustments to my package were made two months after I had actually left. It still doesn’t make sense to me after about ten calls made in total all yesterday. Decided to go to the last option and take out a loan for the extra balance.
