<p>I plan on getting my BSN, and getting my RN certification right around the same time before going on and applying for medical school. With this major I'll be able to take the required/recommended classes in order to do well on the MCAT and get admitted into medical school, right?</p>
<p>Not typically, the science courses required for a BSN are not the same as premed courses. They are just science courses for nonmajors and will not satisfy med school prereqs. Plus , why plan to become a nurse if you want to be a doctor? Nursing majors are frowned upon by med schools anyway. So in many ways you are putting yourself at a disadvantage.</p>

<p>It’s not possible to take the sciences and other required classes through a nursing major? I didn’t know they frowned upon them though, which majors would you recommend?</p>
<p>Plenty of nurses have become MDs. Supposedly medical schools don’t care what your undergrad degree is in as long as you have completed the prerequisite classes. A lot of “pre-med” students major in Biology, Chemistry and Bioengineering. If you actually graduated with a BSN/RN and followed the “usual” nursing curriculum you would need to take about 50 additional credits to satisfy the M-Cat/medical school requirements. Of course the benefit to you would be that if you were one of the MANY that either decided becoming an MD was too much work/expensive, or were not able to get into medical school…you would have a very good paying profession…nursing. The same cannot necessarily be said about those with traditional “pre-med” majors.</p>
