Medical School!!! Need Help

My friend is applying to medical schools this year and particularly in his state texas. He has a 3.7 GPA and a 24 on the MCAT ... he also has an extensive resume of volunteering, academic awards, and senior positions in clubs ...

He is interested in UT Southwestern and was wondering what his chances were.
He was unfortunatley plagued with a family crisis which took alot of attention and energy ... should he include this in his application?

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!

THX

I've read on a lot of websites that a 27 or above on the MCAT is preferred. However, I'm only a high school senior, so pay me no mind.

you can get a 9 on the MCAT and still go to Texas Tech University ( where i wanna go)
but i think he could DEFF get into UTSW

It would be good to mention this in the application/essay....explanations can be put in from anything like such disasters to why a student may have gotten a low grade in a class.

Well he also was accepted to UMKC medical school when he was a high school senior in CA (6 year program)

i read somewhere a 30-32 was necessary....to get a good shot... one second i'll find some statistics

http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/examineedata/table0403.pdf

In 2003 a 24 would get u in the 40-46 percentile (not good)

i found 2006
http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/examineedata/table0806.pdf

it would be the 41.5-47 percentile

http://www.mcattestscores.com/usmedicalschoolsmcatscoresGPA.html

this site has average gpa's and mcat scores (only some schools list the total....but i guess some also list the score per section average).....your friend would be an 8 on the mcat for all 3 sections according to these averages for all medical schools CHECK IT OUT!!!

well besides the MCAT he has a very strong resume ... and being accepted to a 6 yr BS/MD program should count for something?
