Medical School

disclaimer: this is for my sibling, NOT for me(I’m only in HS)

My sibling has a relatively low GPA (3.1) as of their first semester of year two of undergrad. They are bringing it up and will hopefully rise soon. However, we were thinking about a few things:

-a) what is the best option for a med school for them? They are really keen on medicine , however screwed up a bit over personal matter during first year

b) “easiest” med school to get into (yes, none of them are easy, but relatively which one is more accepted towards undergrads with low GPAs?

c) any programs for undergrads that take them directly into med school?

Thanks!

You need to let go of this notion. There is no such thing. A low GPA will jettison a Med school OR DO school application.

There are some BS/MD programs. BUT your sibling is already IN college. BS/MD programs accept kids right out of HS…and are more competitive for admissions than the Ivy League schools. Plus some still require a minimum GPA and MCAT score to move on to the medical school portion. It’s not like the low achievers automatically just move into the medical school portion of these programs at all places.

Anyone considering medical school should have a plan B and a Plan C. There are other health related fields that might be worth exploring…but most I can think of would require a higher undergrad GPA.

@WayOutWestMom did I miss anything?
