My DD is a sophomore in college. She was recently hospitalized for a week; unfortunately, this was right after classes were cancelled for 2 weeks because of Hurricane Sandy. Consequently, there is a lot of work to be made up, While she has been discharged from the hospital, she is still not well and is unsure of her ability to go to all her classes.
We are considering having her do a medical withdrawl from the school. Does anyone know what this entails and what the implications for the future are? She does receive financial aid, which I am sure will be affected, but I wasn't sure if there are other issues we shold be considering.
Thanks for your help.

Every school has its own withdrawal policies. You need to check with the school. The Registrar is the place to begin … but the financial aid office should also be contacted. If it is less than 60% through the semester, a Return of Title IV Aid (R2T4) calculation must be done by the school. They will use the last date your D was in class and perform the calculation to determine what percentage of her aid she has “earned.” The school may or may not prorate tuition - you need to find out what their policies are.
