MEng in Civil Eng

MEng in Civil Eng

Hi! I newly joined this forum!
I have been admitted into MEng of Project management in Civil Eng, UCB. While I don't know the difference between MEng and MS. Why it is one year longer to get a MEng degree? I talked to the professor, he said if I want to get Phd degree, I should switch to MS once I arrived. Are these two degrees treated differently when I find a job?
BTW, anyone knows about this program?

Thanks! Good to know all of you~

You should go to Berkeley's website for clarification. In short, an MEng is a year longer since it is thesis based whereas a 1 year MS at Berkeley is course based. Your advisor probably suggested you switch to an MS instead of an MEng due to the fact that research conducted during an MEng might not be applicable to a ph.d. it would result in a year lost and extra work on a thesis that might not be attributable to a ph.d.

Do you know something about the repuation of this program?
Thanks for your reply!
