I decided to get an earring on one ear a few months ago, but I don't know where to go (to a piercing shop or a regular jewelry store with a gun?). If I go to a piercing place (knowing that I want to get a regular earlobe earring), will they have loop earrings and more subtle pieces or do they only have those hardcore, bell ones?

Every guy I've known to get his ears pierced has just done it in a jewelry store that pierces. People say you technically shouldn't go there because they use guns, but it's not like you're piercing your cartilage with the gun so there really shouldn't be a problem. But piercing places should have subtle jewelry too, if you do decide to go there. Or buy the earring at a jewelry store (call the piercing place and see what type of metal etc they allow for piercings), and then have the piercing place autoclave (sterilize) and pierce you with that specific earring.

Sounds queer, but I went to Claires and they have a small selection of guy's earrings and they pierced my ear without problem. Don't let a friend do it some drunken night.
