If I am applying for freshman admissions to a SINGLE college via CommonApp, to what extent could I mention the college?
Could I mention the college explicitly, link its unique characteristics to me, or just lean some parts of the essay towards them (thus hinting how the college would fit with my person)?
Honestly I would only do that if it explicitly asks, like Why? Essays
It’s the CommonApp essay that goes to all colleges.
Upon further thought, I think any explicit mentions would be awkward.
I guess what I mean is,
To what extent should/could I tailor the essay to the college?
[Probably subtly and beautifully indicating fit with college values, but any specific tips?]
The primary common app essay is usually about you, not the college(s). It’s suppose to help them know something about who you are. So I don’t really see where you are tailoring to a college. Of course, often the supplemental essays will require tailoring as there is usually a “why this college” type essay.
Agree with the othesr to avoid that, even though you are only applying to one CA school.
I mentioned the school once in my common application essay and have been changing it with each school I apply to. I don’t see how it can do any harm, as long as you don’t forget to change it in case you do apply to another school.
My context was something about having a chance to participate in the inset school name and team marching band.
