Hello guys. I am new to the forums. I am a high school senior and currently applying to colleges. I have a question about writing personal statements. I have a lot of ideas, but I feel as if the one that will stand me apart is my religious conversion I had during the summer between my Freshman and Sophomore year. My Catholic faith is central in my life and it is the thing that I try my best to give priority to in my every day life. My conversion is something that is very personal to me and my life and character was transformed after the experience. Is this a risk to college admission? I am in no way mentioning Catholic teaching; I’m just talking about how God changed MY life on that particular day and how that shaped me into the person I am today and how it contributed to my choice of future career. If you were a college admissions officer and read such a statement, what would you think? I am applying to quite a bit of Catholic colleges (Notre Dame, Fordham, St. John’s University, University of San Francisco, and Franciscan University of Steubenville), but my number one is Notre Dame.
Anyone?
No reason not to mention god it that’s important to you. Just remember that he/she/it is not applying for admission. You need to focus on what what motivates you, what you have to offer and how you can contribute. But there’s no reason why religion per se is off the table.
Could work at Catholic colleges. Probably would not resonate with non-Catholic schools.
