I have been accepted into the Spring 2018 semster woth the option of doing a mentorship on D.C. in the fall. Can sometime tell me more about the program? It is worth it? Do its member durimg the fall semester feel like students?
I’ve been accepted too, and I’m excited but also really worried. Does the semester count as 1 year of college, or will I start at AU as a freshman? I’m assuming no merit aid? Any info would be appreciated
I read that if we do the internship and take the class we will be on track to graduate with the class of 2022. We will have 15 credits
@leafconeybearismart I was accepted into this also. From what I’ve seen and read about is that fall semester you take 4-5 classes at AU which will go towards graduation. However for the semester you have to pick based on a few specific options, because these classes only meet three days a week leaving two days for an internship. In terms of merit aid since for fall at least you are seen as a “non-degree seeking” student so there is not fin-aid for the first semester.
@Emmaisawesome I have the same feelings as you as i really don’t want to not feel like a student. In the program since you live on campus, have access to all the services, and can join different organizations I think it does allow members to feel like other students. However I’m not exactly sure since this is only from information that I’ve been find and not a true personal experience so its probably different for everyone.
I was accepted too! I think we’d still graduate with the class of 2022 with the credits from the first semester. I’m also wondering about the social aspects of the program, and how much help we would get in finding an internship. Do you think you’re gonna do it?
I’m pretty much sure I’m not going to do it, because I’m not rich so I can’t afford to pay full tuition, but I’m still mulling it over.
I read in the other thread for admissions for 2022 that someone posted “From past years decision threads, the mentorship program is almost exclusively for applicants AU determines to be full pay meaning hope for aid is nill”. Did anyone who recieved the mentorship receive any aid for Spring 2019?
I recieved a loan, but not a very big one
I’m also wondering how difficult it is to get in to the Bath option? anyone have any info?
I’m kind of really wondering how they chose the people to participate in this program. My grades were very below the average for this school (3.0 GPA and 27 ACT) and I have no “hooks”, so I really don’t know how I would have stood out as someone who they want to do this. Is it a money thing?
@leafconeybearismart I was wondering the same thing… my GPA was pretty low (3.42 and a D on my transcript) but a 32 ACT. Admissions were weird this year tbh. I’m guessing money was a big factor bc there’s no financial aid given for the first semester, so they can get $30,000 right off the bat.
My daughter’s stats were above average for AU and she got “chosen”. But we are full-pay so that’s a possibility.
I got into this program too and I am worried about money. Do we have the same cost of attendance till we graduate or is it that we change it when we go into Spring 2018? I think they left a lot of questions unanswered with the packet I got. Honestly, I have never heard of this program till now.
I’m also a bit concerned about the motives for this program and feel they wrapped their own agenda of getting full pay students hooked in sparkly wrapping paper (“you’ve been invited to join a select cohort of 150 students”). It would be interesting to hear whether anyone who has been invited to join is actually eligible for needs-based aid.
@wewillsee225 @postmelon @leafconeybearismart
Are people going to take the offer?
I was offered $5000 in merit scholarship. I probably would not have received much aid anyway. I am still thinking it over, American is a great school for what I want to study.
@Emmaisawesome I’m honestly considering it, because I want to go into government/politics and I’d be majoring in political science come Spring. I didn’t receive much aid either, but, like you said, American is a great school for what I want to study. Not completely sure yet, but I’m definitely not ruling it out!
Hard to understand. Do they live on campus?
@postmelon i as well want to study political science and think American is a great school for it
@AllenGlen yes you live on campus
You live on campus but you are not really part of your class? What is the purpose?
