Merit Aid Scholarship

Hey guys, I'm an OOS student and I would not apply for need-based financial aid, so I'm wondering what kind of merit aid UCF gives out?

My stats are:

1370/1600 and 2070/2400 SAT
3.9 GPA
Lots of ECs and volunteer hours
Four AP classes (all 5's) and three college courses (9 credits)

Sooo if you got merit-aid scholarships, can you please post your stats and how much you got so I can get a feel for it?

Thanks guys! :)

Hey Laura, you should be in line for UCF’s highest scholarship, the Pegasus Gold. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you how much it’s worth because I’m an in-state student so while my Pegasus Gold is $10,000 over 4 years, yours will be much more since the tuition and fees is much higher for OOS students. Also, look to see if you can qualify for a nice big national merit scholarship, though that depends on your PSAT and not the real one. my 3 room mates are all from Michigan on the same scholarship that pretty much gives them a full ride due to their PSAT scores even though my room mates SAT (about 1330) is lower than mine (1420). You should also apply to UCF’s Honors College. They’ll give you a small one time scholarship as well.

Well I’m not National Merit Semi-Finalist or Finalist, however I am National Merit Commended…I sent UCF one of my letters.
What are the requirements/average stats for Pegasus Gold? And is it done in proportion or is it done just set amount?

Well UCF has 3 different scholarships: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. I’m sure you can figure out which one gives the most money lol. Unfortunately, UCF does not list the requirements/average stats for each one anywhere on their website but based on my own stats and those of friends and other people I’ve seen on this site, you should definitely be in line for the Gold. The only listed minimum is that for any Pegasus scholarship you must have at least a 3.0 GPA. My stats, in case you need the reference are as follows:

1420/1600 and 2050/2400 SAT
4.0 UW GPA and 5.4 Weighted GPA

The Pegasus Scholarships are done in set amounts but vary depending on whether you’re OOS or not. Gold is $10,000 over 4 years (aka $2,500 a year) Silver is … umm … well I’m not quite sure since UCF doesn’t list it but I’ll say around $8,000 and Bronze will probably be around $6,000. However, like I stated before, UCF has 2 different sets of Pegasus scholarships. The amounts I listed are for in-state students like myself since it would cover a reasonable amount of my costs at the in-state rate. But for OOS students like you, $2,500 a year isn’t much, which is why the Pegasus Gold for OOS is worth more. What that amount is I don’t know =/ Sorry for all the missing answers, but contacting UCF with an email or a call may be the best way to find these exact figures since for whatever reason they chose not to list specifics online.

Does anyone know what the pegasus gold amount is for OOS?

I’m wondering the same thing…What is pegasus gold for OOS and what are requirements?

Is it only for NMF or do they also offer gold for high stats, but not NMF??

Any info would be appreciated!!

I sent an email yesterday afternoon requesting info from the pegasus scholars link on the UCF scholarship page asking for the specific requirements on the different levels of pegasus and NMSF/F particularly for OOS.

I will post it if/when I get a reply!

It’s frustrating when colleges don’t supply that info…I don’t want to waste time and money traveling to a school if there’s no way we can afford them. Yet I do understand that colleges are being hit with the economic downturn, too…

D had the Pegasus Gold offered to her last year (she ended up going to UF). But I think I remember when we visited w/ my son a couple of years before that (he’ll graduate UCF this spring from their honors college) that the admissions officers said it was on a sliding scale, differing a bit depending on what the stats were of the students who applied. I know the stats have been increasing for admission to the honors college from when my son applied, so I imagine the stats are going up for what’s required for the Pegasus scholarships. Hopefully you’ll here back. Good luck!

Sorry mom2them, I didn’t see your posts until now. If I recall correctly, you do NOT have to a NMF in order to get Pegasus scholarships as an OOS. I can’t tell you exact numbers because I’m not sure what the Pegasus offers for OOS, though I can only assume it’s more than what they offered me so it could be proportional to the tuition rate OOS must pay. What UCF offers via their Pegasus scholarship isn’t as generous though as what they offer NMF. All 3 of my room mates (we are all in the Honors College but I’m the only one from Florida) are NMF from Michigan who could only afford the school due to the very generous scholarship they received.

Thanks zebes & marlins 97…

I had understood that UCF had reduced the amount of scholarships to NMFs as Florida was having some money issues. I thought it was a full ride guaranteed and now it’s full tuition (including OOS) + guaranteed, full ride is competitive. At least per keilalexandra’s thread in the NMF forum:

U of Central Florida (NMF full tuition+ guaranteed / full ride competitive & NMSF 9k guaranteed)

So I was wondering what that meant…

And I still haven’t gotten a response from the scholarship folks…maybe they don’t want to release the info!

This is the info I received from UCF on scholarships from Ryan Woods, merit scholars coordinator. Unfortunately, he only specified NMSF/F info…not Pegasus Gold/Silver/Bronze without NMSF.

UCF: I thought that UCF had cut back on its scholarships for NMF and so sent an email asking because it is not spelled out online. Here’s the response I received today from Ryan Woods, NM coordinator at UCF:

The out of state award for a National Merit semifinalist is $36,000 over 4 years. However should you advance to finalist and designate UCF as your 1st choice institution, the award increases to $112,000 over 4 years. This award should cover most of your room board and tuition for 4 years at UCF.

I would consider that a “full ride”…hopefully that stays in place for another two years and my daughter should be very happy!
