of the students who get this type of merit aid at Syracuse? My D really likes Syracuse and will be applyint next year. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Here are some of my questions. Do you really need to have a very high gpa, sat to receive this merit $/scholarships? are other factors considered too ?
what are the gpa, sat scores of students who received merit aid/scholarships for this coming fall 09. Thanks so much!

I got a $12,000/yr merit based scholarship at Syracuse.

I have a 3.9 UW GPA, 2050/1380 SAT, and 30 ACT
SAT IIs: 780 U.S. History, 740 Math Level II
AP Exams: Calculus AB, 5, US History, 5

I’m taking another 3 AP classes this year, but we don’t have a lot of AP courses offered at my school, so my schedule is classified as pretty rigorous.

ECs: I’ve held a few officer positions for NHS, I’m the secretary of french honor society, I rowed for a season, and then I’m very involved with my high school’s Relay for Life. I’ve been on the committee since sophomore year and am co-chairing the event this year.

I don’t know what they actually base scholarships on. I was contacting about the Coronat scholarship as well, but was not a finalist.

I hope that helps!

thanks a lot padfootblack. Your comments give me a better idea. Your gpa is impresive. I’m sure your gpa and test scores helped you to get a nice merit aid -congrats.

MomOfaTeen-In a nutshell, yes, you really need to have a very high gpa, sat to receive the merit $/scholarships (oh, and BTW, even then you may not get any).

i got 12,000 a year with a 3.5 gpa

i got 32,000 financial aid a year
3.6 gpa
since my major is art, i thnk my portfolio helped alottt
also, my older brother who also goes to private school, has to pay 50,000 a year
ithinks thats why i got more than he did
still have to pay 20,000…:(

sorry my bad i got 6,000 a year. in scholarships. total financial aid per year i got 21,000.

thanks you david, mini, and research. I think I have a better idea about merit aid now.
David, you have a good amount in loans. Do you think syracuse is worth the money?

I have 6,000 a year in scholarships, i also have 13,000 in grants. and 2,000 in loans with no interest. Is it worth the money? In most cases I would say yes. For me? No. Reason is that Im going for accounting, and it doesnt matter where you go for accounting in all honesty bc as long as the school is accredited they will all adequately prepare you for the CPA exam. I also intend on going to law school, which costs an awesome amount of money. So for me, the most logical thing to do would be to go to my state school. (most likely Buffalo, i already got in and would only be paying 3,000 with scholarships) but if you dont go for business or even go for business and dont plan on graduate school, love the atmosphere at syracuse and really want to go there bad, its definately worth thinking about. i wish i got like 15,000 more. then i would go for sure, I love SU!

I got a $12,000 scholarship and $12,500 grant. Stats:

GPA: 3.8 uw 4.3 w
ACT: 35
SAT: 2100
AP: 5’s on US Hist and US Gov

my EC’s are decent but not amazing. I guess it was all really my ACT score. hope that helped!
