Can I get the maximum 12k at Syracuse?
Can I get around 15k at Miami?

Have you looked at the school websites? They should provide information about the requirements for merit scholarships and the award amounts. Do you qualify for financial aid on a need-based basis?

@thumper1 I have one last shot in November. And @KKmama I do not qualify Do you think that my current situation will achieve the scholarships that I said??

@"Erin’s Dad" my current situation meaning my sat scores remaining the same. Sorry for the confusion. I do not qualify for financial aid (need based).

Turtle…how much merit aid do you hoe to get? Both schools cost. $50,000 a year…or so. If you got a $10,000 merit award, would you be able to pay. $40,000?

@arabrab my sister got 8k with a 1260 sat score… do you think 8 k is more realistic for me @thumper1 40k per year would be a lot but i can afford it. The question I would have: is it worth it?

That’s truly the $64K question these days for a lot of full pay families. As you slide the price down, you have to determine when it becomes worth while for which school if for any. That’s something you and your family has to decide together.

Are you a female? Females in engineering can get a bit more leeway at times at some school when it comes to STEM programs.

You are in the upper 10% with your math score, but your two part SAT puts right in the middle. Syracuse gives about 10% of their non need students merit money with an average award of about $9K.

COA is about $60K and rising so even the $12k award is going to leave a big bill. I think the numbers for Miami are not a whole lot better.

If your family feels that this is an option to purse, go on ahead. Look at SUNY Buffalo, however. Cost would be about half or less especially as an in stater. There are also less pricey schools in FL, if that is what you are seeking.

Try the RPI NPC, they calculate merit aid based on SAT scores.

I’m wondering myself, can a student just call the FA office and ask for an idea of SAT cutoffs? Or does it change so much year-to-year (or is it a secret)? As I mentioned, I know RPI does ask for SAT data, and Syracuse doesn’t.

Syracuse is WAY more expensive than RPI for us, because RPI would give a lot of merit aid. And it’s a pretty good engineering school.

@rhandco @cptofthehouse thanks for the responses.
My problem is that I am having trouble deciding whether I want business or engineering. I believe that engineering would make much better use of my math skills. Then my problem becomes… which schools have good engineering programs that are rather small/medium sized (2000-15000 undergrad). I also would like my school to have d1 sports and good school spirit if possible. Please let me know of any schools that come to mind. TY :/
