"To be considered for most merit scholarships, you must submit your completed undergraduate admission application for the fall semester by the priority deadline of Nov. 1".....from the admissions web page.

Probably everyone on CC who is interested in UMD now realizes this, but every year there are people who decide to "get with" the whole application process a bit late in the game, then come here to the CC UMD threads, shocked that they can't get any merit aid.

People have the misconception that November 1 is the “early” date to apply to UMD. I think it would be better to think of November 1 as the “regular” date and January as the “late” date. DO IT!!! (I also believe that the chances of getting into LEP’s, etc. are greater with the November 1 date, but I don’t have any data to back that up right now…)

Can I second that?

A lot of students think it is a commitment like ED, so they don’t apply by Nov. 1st. There is nothing to lose by applying November 1st and EVERYTHING to gain!

Not only is merit aid at stake, but I believe so are the special programs like Honors, Scholars, Civicus, etc - all the living learning programs with the exception of FLEXUS and VIRTUS (female engineering living-learning community and male engineering living-learning community) which you apply for only after you’ve been admitted to the Clark School of Engineering…

Definitely apply by November 1. My OOS nephew is applying and he is juggling all of his apps to make sure he gets his in by the priority deadline. It’s better to have a less than perfect essay than to apply regular decision.

The only college pressure I ever applied to my two kids was to get their apps in by Oct 31st. It worked out for us.
