Can someone please explain how merit aid works at AU? Their website is pretty vague. I know that there are the special programs, AU Honors and Frederick Douglass (both of which I am applying to), but can I get merit aid if I don’t get into these programs? How much will it be for? I’m not asking for me specifically, but just in general for high achieving students.
From the Website:
The Admissions Committee makes all merit-based scholarship decisions and notifies students at the time they are admitted or shortly thereafter. Your admissions application is your application for a merit-based scholarship. No separate application is required for the following merit awards:
AU Presidential Scholarship
AU Deans’ Scholarship
AU Leadership Scholarship
Frederick Douglass Scholarship
Freshmen Merit Aid Basics
Who is eligible?
Eligible candidates demonstrate academic excellence and rank within the top 10 to 15 percent of AU’s admitted students.
How much can I receive?
Scholarships range from $6,000 to $30,000.

How much will it be for? I’m not asking for me specifically, but just in general for high achieving students. - I believe the $30,000 is only for Honors and the top automatic merit aid is $20,000.
FYI - we were told the NPC was not accurate.
Once a merit award is given, the student has to continue to meet certain requirement for credits earned (30 per year, I think) and GPA (3.2, I think), or the merit aid will be dropped.
