Merit Scholarship Questions

This is a question about merit, not need. Based on what I see on this page of the UR website (<a href="http://admissions.richmond.edu/financial/scholarships.html%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.richmond.edu/financial/scholarships.html</a>), the school awards the following number of merit scholarships…

50 Richmond Scholars
25 Presidential Scholarships
25 Bonner Scholars (mainly need-based, some merit)

So, can one conclude that the only way to receive merit aid is to be among the top 100 students to enroll?

Yes, I see that National Merit, National Achievement, and National Hispanic awards are also available to those who qualify. Likewise, there’s UWC, ROTC, and performing arts.

But, for the rest of the class, there’s no more merit money? No small awards for those outside the buckets I’ve already listed?

Don't misunderstand me. I think these awards are fine. I'm just trying to confirm that this is everything. If small dollars exist, great. If not, then now we know.

Thanks.

Fair questions--Yes, this is what we're offering this year. We will not be offering numerous small merits. I guess I should also clarify that when it comes to Bonner, "merit" means outstanding commitment to community service, rather than outstanding academic merit. Bonner Scholars typically have academic profiles all across the range of admitted students rather than just at the top end.

Okay, so let me get this straight. In earlier years, Richmond awarded around 70 offers out of the ~100 finalists with around 50 students going to Richmond in the fall. Are you saying that this year you're only offering 50 awards, period? That's it?

UR Admissions, how much need does the typical Bonner Scholar applicant need to qualify? Is there a range, or is it a variable based on how much excellence one has in service?

inconspicuous, I'm pretty sure that the targeted number of enrolled students is 50 every year, thus more offers are extended since not everyone who gets an offer will accept. Some years there will be more than 50 that enroll, other years less.

rocker, I'm also pretty sure that Bonner aid is not awarded out of need, but rather (service) merit.

I think that the Bonner Scholarship is around $2500. If you are in need of big bucks, this might not help much. But every dollar helps in this economy.
