Merit Scholarship Thank You's Etiquette

So I just came across some information that thank you letters should be sent for scholarship offers and I have a few questions:

  1. If Scholarships were received from multiple schools, should thanks you be sent to all or just the school that we will eventually choose to enroll at?
  2. Who should the Thank You Letter be addressed to for merit scholarships from large universities?
  3. Traditional letter or E-mail?
  4. How soon should the thank you be sent after receipt of the offer? Most of the offers my D has were received a few months ago, is it still acceptable/reasonable to send TY's now?

Any advise would be appreciated, TY…

I have not heard of this practice to send thank you notes to every college that awarded a merit scholarship.

But my D did send thank you cards to a few local organizations that awarded her scholarships.

I don’t have much to offer, but I’d first check the school’s website. For one of the schools I got into, they have a small list of instructions for people that wish to send thank you’s. If they don’t have something posted online, I’d call and ask the school.

My kids did NOT send thank you notes to their colleges for merit awards.

BUT they did send very nice thank you notes to the groups who awarded them local scholarships.

I agree with the others - thank you letters are neither required nor expected for merit scholarships given by the school.

I think either is acceptable. My kids sent e-mail to one local scholarship donor but sent a handwritten note to another one because no e-mail address was available.

Sure, it’s fine to send it now. It’s never to late to say thanks.
