I am an international freshman at UMass Amherst where I am studying cs with a scholarship of 14k$ per annum. It so happened that now I want to transfer to NEU for the fall of 2019. I had a SAT of 1360. My first semester gpa is roughly between 3.8-4. Do i have any chance of receving any sort of merit scholarship?
I remember reading in some other threads that people got merit scholarships, but why not just apply and see? If they don’t cover your needs, then stay at Amherst. The only thing you lose is the application fee. Good luck!
@ishaan102119 : Are you willing to share the reason or reasons for wanting to transfer ? Curious because UMass-Amherst has an excellent reputation for CS & , if you are in-state, is almost tuition free due to your scholarship. Plus, you are doing well if your GPA is abound a 3.90.
I work with a lot of software engineers who have graduated from U.Mass Amherst. Some are among the best software engineers that I have ever worked with. If you graduate from U.Mass and start looking for a job, you might very well find yourself interviewing with a hiring manager who graduated from there. U.Mass Amherst is very highly ranked for computer science.
I would be surprised if you can get a merit scholarship from Northeastern (as one example my daughter with substantially higher SAT and nearly 4.0 unweighted GPA was not offered any scholarship there). However, I think that you can do very well with a degree from where you are already.
I do agree that there is little harm in applying and seeing what happens.
Something that I overlooked in my response is that OP is an international student.
