I looking into transferring to Northeastern University as a sophomore next fall, what are my chances at getting a merit scholarship as a transfer student?
Very little merit aid for transfers and nowhere near the award levels given to freshmen.
Would you say staying at a school ranked lower would make sense then if I’m receiving a merit scholarship? Right now I’m at Providence College looking to transfer to Northeastern in Boston.
I transferred to Northeastern with a 3.8 GPA. I got a 5,000 merit scholarship. They did give me very generous need based aid, which brought the COA down to 29,000-which is expensive, but almost doable.
PC has a lot of great opportunities-it’s a very nice size to let you get to know your classmates. Have you been getting involved in any of the on campus clubs or activities?
Why do you want to transfer?
I want to be in a larger city, there’s more going on in Boston and I feel more at home there. Yes PC is fairly close to Boston but when I was looking at schools I wasted something urban and larger. I love PC but I feel that the liberal arts aspect is fairly constraining because I am a business major. I want to be somewhere with tons of opportunities and want to work in Boston as an accountant once I am done with school. I didn’t apply to northeastern when I was a senior last year and now am thinking that I should have. I want to stay at PC for a full year but want to stay informed should I decide to transfer next fall.
